Hi
New to the forum...
From Aus - Oy Oy Oy... etc
But do you think photogs from the K100d have a dead/bland look..?
Lifeless... under-exposed: lacking vitality..?
My latest acq is the K100d - and so far I am underwhelmed at the quality...
The kit lens (18-50 F3.5-5.6) is a dissapointment... Or is my technique to blame..?
I also have a Sigma 70-300 F4-F5.6 APO which produces MUCH better results.
Maybe I am still learning the exposure characteristics of this Pentax... If so, then I will have to learn more...
I have tried Av Tv M P Auto... Exposure sees to be a problem...
Over-expose
Under-expose
Can't seem to reproduce what I saw with my eyes...
And I see K100d images on this thread the same as I see mine...
Flat... lacking vitality...
Is it ME - or my monitor..?

you have to understand the limitations of technology - ALL CAMERAS today have limited dynamic range, even film does not have the dynamic range of the eye, even though it is much better than digital sensor.

you should also understand the camera, and histogram, and some technicalities to understand exposure. in-camera metering for k100d tends to underexpose by 1/2 to 1 stop, adjust accordingly for the scene.

if the k100d images on this thread are the same, then it is either you or your monitor, first, check if your monitor can pass the simple test on this site. if it is that, then it is your monitor. if it's not, then it is you. pentax has one of the most vibrant out-of-camera colors, some even complain that it is too vibrant and they do not like it, so there is no reason for such a comment.

Hmm... surprising that you find it so, I don't think this is one of the usual complains about the K100D at all! But I believe if you find the pictures lacking in vitality, there must be examples of results you were expecting to achieve. Is there some way you could show us a comparison between that and what you have taken? I don't mean it as a challenge of any sort, but I am rather curious to see what the issue could be.

Anyway, as night86mare has mentioned, the K100D does tend to under-expose, though I'd hardly consider that an issue. Maybe you could tell us if you're shooting in jpg or raw, and if jpg, what your settings are. Oh, and it'd probably be good to start a new thread in the Pentax subforum for that, since this one is for sharing of photos, and not such technical discussion... :)

First off, welcome to the forum. I would suggest you shoot more and bracket your exposures in order to get the general exposure right. All camera meters meter the scene according to the proportion of light and dark and the camera do often get it wrong. That is why there is exposure compensation built in.

As to your comment of flat looking images that lack vitality, all digital images often require some measure of post processing to give it the extra "pop". Learn to process your images and I am sure you'll be on the road to great shots from your K100D.
