We are now hearing the voice of courage.

:dunno: student, you are a Dr?

i'm really surprised you have the time to think through, quote and rebuke all DP's posts.

anyway, live and let live.
comments are there, whether u like it or not, it's really up to you.
you can definitely set your own sets of custom comments' filters.

why take it so hard?

Too bad neither are blameless... One is no poet, the other has no humility like a good student.

for those who have had personal experiences of entering a 'debate' with Dp, and is current enough with the ongoings in CS, will have a better empathy of the point student is trying to put across.

there are several times Dp have set himself up to be the authority on photography. i won't mention where and when. point being, he made it out to seem like it's either his way, or the highway. well, again, as somebody else have mentioned in this thread, and me elsewhere...there is no absolute right or wrong. it's all relative to our current level of understanding and perceptions. if you think Dp has his points and accept his views, it's your responsibility to yourself. like the saying goes, do not the chase the wind that turns up to be a fart (oh ok, i made it up myself).

if some of you can 'see through your own anger' of Dp's oft-rough and coarse delivery of his 'messages', why can't this same bunch of fellows accord the same to see that student ultimately 'meant well' despite his appearance to, somebody mentioned compulsive-obsessively, hunt down Dp?

for those who have nothing better to say than 'peace no war' and sticking virtual 'V' finger signs here, i say, you can stick them up your*. who doesn't want peace? but disputes don't get solved by flower waving and cloaking the whole issue over.

how do u differentiate.?

I jus realise one thing also..expressing views and urging can be a 'passion' or so called hobby also..:D

Just a hobby is when you have a camera and you use it to take nice pictures

Passion is when you "see" with your eyes, when can be taken all the time

If photography is a passion, then they should be full time photographers and not doctors and etc. Why would you choose something to do full time when you are not passionate about it? Unless someone can be passionate about 2 things at anyone time??

when you go at it full time
the passion becomes a job that you have to do to make money.

there is alot more to going professional than the ability to take nice pictures.
I was a pro once, but now i am just passionate

Q1) Do you know how many people are behind Yanni to help him realise the music in his head to turn it into reality, just because he doesn't have the awareness of the 'rules' to do it himself? Q2) Do you know that without these 'rules', his music can only exist in his head?
Q3) Can you name me another one of them?

I have heard of some musician who had no formal training, Yanni being one of them if I am not wrong. It doesnt matter which way you chose to learn photography, rules or no rules, as long as you are happy with the results. Some people just shoot with their heart and soul.

how to define pro?

u shoot, u get paid, u are pro?:dunno:

Pro is just a name, everyone can be named a pro, to be a recognised pro is different...

which 1 are u tying to find out? i find the word pro used super loosely over here, any tom dick & harry is a pro in CS, cos every other guy who shot a beautiful girl is a pro, cos they look at subject and not the skills...

i had always wanted to find out how one defines the word PROFESSIONAL.

some told me when u shoot for people, get paid, u are pro.
some said(like u mentioned), when people comment your works are good, you are pro.
some said if you have the pro equipments, you are a pro.(DUH)
some said when u win awards(or works are recognised), u are a pro
some said if you shoot for press, you are a pro.

You are comparing technical rules with artistic rules. Yanni might not have the technical skills to make his music into reality at first, but he had the artistic skills even without any formal training. Jimi Hendrix is another self thought music artist...

Okay, I have stuck em up my a*s :bsmilie:

Now what do you propose we do with those two? How about locking them up in a small room and we watch the show? :bsmilie:

Chong,

While I've the utmost respect for your works here, I really can't bring myself to say the same about the way you conduct yourself over this entire DP saga.

How would bringing all these things up here, benefit the CS community? How would those few exchanges betw DP and you, prove to us, beyond reasonable doubt about DP's character?

Many of us would not have understood this eternal feud betw. you two. So, pray tell me, your objective is?

Let me tell you what I do perceive over these few months of my (more active)participation in this forum here:

I've come across a few threads where you try to drag DP into the picture. Some of these posts are really thin veiled digs you hurl at DP, and what I do perceive, as a relatively newcomer, is that you are really spoiling for a fight with him.

I've not really come across a thread whereby DP does the same to you. What is more depressing is that, when DP comes into the thread and have an arugment with you, the whole thread degenerates into a mudslinging match between you two, which is most of the time, of no consequence to the topic.

So when this thing happens to these threads, don't you think that in some ways, accidental or otherwise, both of you have trespassed someone' thread, brought along a hurricane with you, and then leaving the scene with a trail of destruction?

So much for trying help others improve. If this isn't hypocrisy, then what is?

I'm not trying to take sides, I'm just trying to convey what I perceive thus far.

Your relentless pursuit of DP, to me, is really an obsessive compulsive behaviour. And the way you conduct your argument, really sound like the Grand Inqusition itself! It is getting tiresome for people to rebutt or prove to you point for point, especially for many of us who are not as linguistically well endowed as your esteemed self. And if your intention is to wear your opponents down and confuse them, I think you are doing a pretty good job at that.

While I'm not saying you are wrong about DP, I can't say you are right either, since I don't have an inkling about the feud you have with him. However, I'm quite sure many of the members here do share my sentiments (please don't ask me to prove it, I must admit I can't).

After reading your numerous postings, what members like me do see, is that you are always trying to hunt DP down. And what DP does, is to just try and shunt away from argument. DP is smart, he is playing a victim here. And your relentless pursuit will only reinforce this image of his in us.

Thus, i can tell you that by posting your personal feud here with him, you've got nothing much to gain, but alot to lose.

Cheers,

Kenny

i love this post the most in the entire thread.

as a DR with 7 years minimum of elite education, i'm really surprised at the level of professionalism indicated in his posts.
which makes me worry...if you were to cover duty for a fellow colleague who's as critical as DP, will you take your anger to the operating table?:dunno:

Are you being serious? Please for a moment do not even comtemplate of questioning his professonal intergrity.

And to answer your question. Of course, he'll be using his sharpest knife.

:dunno:

by any definition i won't be a pro...

cos
i dun shoot to get paid
i dun receive comments about my pics are good. (i scrutinise my pics, they'll never be good enuff anyway)
i dun have pro equipments, cos i can't afford
i dun have any awards to my name
i dun have press pass

anyway in CS its mostly the same group of ppl rubbing each other's ego calling each other pro... nothing new, and nothing thats really uniquely singapore... or is it uniquely CS?

hmm, do u know the rules of thirds?

if yes, then how did u know the rules when u say u got no rules?

if no, how did you break the rules when there is no rules to start with?

every game is the same, there is rules to govern the game, to me photography is another game & hobby, u follow the rules to enjoy the game, u break the rules to excel over it. if there is no rules, then where did the game come from?

rules on art, there is rules and there is no rules, y? rules restrict art, to follow rules blindly in art will make u just a straightforward person who isn't artistic... to bend around the rules to create is art. To totally reject the rules is being overly arrogant and disregard art itself... thats how i feel...

Exactly.....this is what I have been saying all this while. But some people just choose to ignore and think highly of himself.....the worst is I have not seen any fantastic "art" piece from those who claim that they do not follow rules.

comon guys, take it ez lah.
it's just a photography forum.

if you really dont like/cant accept someone's criticism, why even in the first place post your pic for c&c?
moreover, there's the scroll bar and you can always skip to the next post.

just like someone who shot me recently that when he logs in, he gets annoyed seeing me posting for queries regarding new equipments to buy.why?if it annoys you, just hit the back button and move on with another thread.

that having said, i have to say this again,

i love DP's comments.it very often reflects what i want to say about some pics being posted here in cs.just that for me, i hesitate sometimes in making 'enemies' unintentionally in a forum, prob i do not like flame wars and am a peace loving person.

i'll be very afraid if he uses the blunt knife...

btw, lets not doubt student... wait u all have your own commemorative threads...
