Trying out super marco... seem very poor skill haha pardon me.

meaning to say low ISO is more suitable for night shoot?

not exactly.. cerebus uses low ISO to avoid noise.. but at the same thing, low ISO = low light sensitivity = dark photos if not exposed long enough.

Yeah, low ISO is less light sensitivity. So you should set to a higher ISO for night shots. However, increasing the ISO also increases noise. I just shoot at a longer exposure with low ISO. The S3IS sensor is less noisy then the S2IS sensor, so you might want to try shooting at ISO 100. If you can live with the noise, keep it there for night shots. In the day, set it back to ISO 80.

ya i agree with that, was testing high iso this morning but forget to switch back found a very good shot of iguana but too noisy that i have to forgo it.

When shooting macro, it is quite important that the subject is in good focus. DOF is really thin, so slight off focus will ruin the shot. I normally will take a number of shots. It is not easy, checking focus with the LCD. Can be quite a pain.

lwl80, pic 1 and 3 is nice. pic 2 and 4 is kana sai. IMO lar. hahaha~ no offence k..

haha! i agree that 2 & 4 are kana sia also in fact i think onli the ant is nice. haha btw wat is imo??? any next time will not be so bo liao to post that kind of lousy picts... i try to promise...

No harm in posting bad pics in this thread. Its the only way to learn. Just say you are new to this and want people to comment on how to improve. Also, do not take offence if people tell you that the photos are crap. There are idiots who will say that without telling you why the photos are bad. People can be quite nasty.

IMO= In My Opinion.

Hi GeckoZ, why dun you give tell leeweelee80 what needs to b improved? That is more constructive IMOH.:)

Hi, I am not a macro shooter, tried before, but I scare away those insects most of the time, so......anyway, just keep on posting, collect comments, digests and move on, no need to worry about posting newbie shots mah.

The main reasons of starting this thread is that when we post pics in the main gallery, we seldom get comments from the Pro there, so we do it here within ourselves, so I think there is no Pro here and everyone is learning.....

BTW, IMO=In My Opinion, IMOH=IMO honestly

haha i am not offended lah. just that i myself think that that is realli quite bad... dunno why i post it also... thanks anyway... i will take any critiques to improve myself... will try to take more... anyway just bought a lot of accessories marco lens, wide angle, slave flash, diffuser and more... to take more picts... WAIT for my picts!

U are really rich leh....think you have spent a bomb on ya S3 liao:bsmilie:

Back to it, I think if you are really shooting very close, then you need the ring light rite? because the flash will be blocked by the lens. No sure too, not a macro shooter...

talking about flash, i bought a ttl flash for $200 and a slave bracket but when come to marco shots its seems quite useless... so do u guys recommend that i buy a ring light instead?

ya lor the amt i spent can buy a Dslr E500 with the 2 kit lens. but nv mind lah if buying a wide angle, ttl flash, filters and marco lens will cost even more than wat i spent now... haha burnt a big hole in pocket liao.

pic 2 and 4 has been removed? i only can remember there for no subject in both photos.. or was the subject not well brought out and therefore kana sai.. couldn't rmb... pic #4, i think the insect is blur and.. i cant tell what insect is tt... hmm..

Nope, you do not need a ring light. Just position the flash off the camera, closer to the subject you are taking. Also, try to use a diffusor on the flash, it makes the light less harsh.
