Wise to get 3rd party battery grip and batteries??

Im using both a 3rd party grip and battery with no problems, With regards to storage...I would recommend to use a dry cabinet to save you time and trouble.

i used before both :) ~ 3rd party and original ones.

which 3rd party batt and grips did u get?? and from where??

i am using dry cabinet :) ~

yup i got 3rd party batt and grips.

i'm using D90 with phottix grip, no issue at all. have not taken it off my camera ever since day one.

go for dry cabinet, more space and less hassle.

I do.. I dun see why there's any issue in doing so if the price is competitive. As accessories usually dont come with warranties. But some for a peice of mind, would prefer to examine the item before commiting to a pruchase.

Dry Cabinet is much preferred for hassle free operation (u wont have to bother with changing silical gels always in ur dry box)

Try Akarui/Digi :)

btw where do u guys get your dry cabinet from?? from the mass sale on this forum too??
care to intro em to me??
thnx in advance.

dry cabinet and phottix can get from reddotphoto.com.sg. Home delivery if you order the cabinet, very fast response. for new set, 30L cabinet is $118, grip depends on model. $125 for D90 grip.

The links that i gave you are where people buy from...

I believe in orginal battery & grip as the following,

1. My cam, lens n dry cabinet is precious to me, I won't want to fry it during storage process.

2. I love my home, I wouldn't take risk when electricity is involve in.

Maybe it's just me.

as above

need some enlightenment from seniors here.

btw any of u guys like to shop online?? as in shop for camera accessories like battery grip, filter, batteries online?
and one more thing, what kinda dry cabinet are u guys using?? or using dry box with gel??

I have only shopped online for a dry cabinet and flash diffuser once on reddotphoto. I will recommend that you exercise caution when you shop online for camera accessories. Do your research on the store (Google it) before making any purchases. It's probably safe to say that advertisers on clubsnap (especially those who are active and with comments from other forummers) are a better bet against fraud/scam when doing online shopping.

I'm using Digi-Cab AD 50L. So far it seems fine. I'll be getting a second hygrometer to make sure that the dry cabinet is doing its job.

I'm using mostly third-party batteries. They are 3 times cheaper than OEM batteries. The downside is that their number of recharge is lesser than OEM. So if you just want a few backup batteries to your OEM one, you can get third-party. That's what I do.

i use original batt coz its more reliable, and 3rd grip coz its just connections, no fancy circuitry. i dun think a few voltage can cause a electrical fire, but then again i always remove all batt during storage. my 2cts.

hmmm... what do ye mean by removing all batt during storage?? as in when u are storing your camera back into the cabinet, u removed the batteries??

That means remove the batteries from your camera before storing it in dry cabinet, dry box or any storage space in your home. It probably stems from the fact that alkaline batteries leak potassium hydroxide after storing for some time without using. I'm not so sure whether the camera rechargable Lithium-ion batteries leak though.

It's not inconvenient for me to remove, so I just do it. :D

keeping Lithium-ion batteries in the body will very slowly but surely drain its charge coz of the lcd display.

like hori stated, not inconvenient so why not save every little energy we can?

Would the camera still consumes power when it's off? I'm not sure if it is like a PC where it does consume some power even when it's switched off but still connected to a power socket.

Review of Computer Energy Consumption and Potential Savings said:
Computers, like many other electrical devices, draw power even when they are turned off. The average computer draws between 1.5W and 3W when it is turned off but plugged into a mains socket.

You can read more here under "Computer"

unless weather seal (for 7D and 5Dmk2 grips etc) matters a lot to you, i would personally get a 3rd party grip. if im correct, the original grips are heavier as well - but it looks better imo, just a lot more costly.

even when my D90 is off, the lcd on the top shows the number of photo i can take in my SD card. so i'm sure the number in the display is using batt power, not to mention it needs to read the SD for the space available info. not sure about other other tho.
