www.focusingscreen.com

the K3 screens from focusingscreen.com is highly recommended. installation can be DIY. it comes in a kit with everything u need.

or you can search "focusing screen" on ebay and see what turns up.

F.O.C option: K-5 has a VF thats very bright. just use your eyes. its really not that difficult.

Do consider the katz or K3 screen if you are serious about using manual focusing lens.

I got myself a cheapo china focusing screen on my *istD. It does work well but got to make sure it's align properly as it's tolerance of dimension is not so accurate.

Then on my K-x, I got the K3 focusing screen recommended by the guys here. K3 is very clear and bright. That's what you will need.

Another point that you have to know. As of all split focusing screen. It get early darken when you use a lens slower than f/4.

Re the problem of the darkened image in the VF at slow apertures, will it help if you do the manual focusing using the biggest apertures (2.8 or even 1.4 if your lense supports it), and then adjust the aperture accordingly?

what seafone meant is that for lenses where max aperture is F4, the VF will be quite dark.

normally, the aperture is kept wide open while u focus and only steps down before you press the shutter. even for old K and M lenses, you use the aperture ring to set the aperture, but it stays wide open until u press the shutter.

you only need to do stop-down metering if you're using really old lenses like the M42 lenses with K mount adaptor or if u're using fully manual extension tubes with no aperture lever.

Thanks for all the helpful reply

I was looking at the FBS focusing screen .
It's the cheapest at us$50. Cheaper than K3 screen at us$80+.

Is there any big diff between FBS and K3? Apart from the vertical grip on K3?

Most important will the focusing screen affect the AF function of my K5?
Will the multiple focusing point still appear with I use the AF lens?

Thanks

Pay a bit more for the K3 than the FBS. I have gone through it before and no regrets with the K3.
