Hi guys, I got a question which may sound very noobish, hope you all don't laugh at me..:embrass: What does the SMC in Pentax lenses means? Eg. SMC Pentax-FA 35mm F2 AL

I am guessing it could be Super Multi Coated?

Thanks bro! Is it the same as those highly multi-coated (HMC) Hoya filters? Does other brands lenses have this as well? Does SMC in any way protects the lens from scratches?

Yup. Super multi-coated.

Ah yes... takumar lenses are radioactively good. :)

If I remembered correctly, Pentax and Carl Zeiss had a joint venture when they developed the 7 layers of coating. SMC is "probably" similarly to Carl Zeiss D* (?) coating. Both are great in their own ways. And these 2 companies are pioneers when it comes to great lenses. Zeiss and Pentax are  My memory not very good, so perhaps someone might want to verify this. :)
