What do you bring (photographic equipment) for travel

Need some advice from experienced photographers here,
I'm planning to go for a 2 weeks backpacking trip to Vietnam, will be traveling from north to south.

I'll be bringing
5dmk2
Sigma 50mm f1.4
135L(optional)
S100 powershot

My plan is to carry 1 big backpack for my travel stuff
And 1 small daypack which I'll carry when I go sight seeing
Im planning to stay in hostel

I would like to seek some advice on the kind of day pack you guys carry on your trip.
I'm currently looking at lowepro photo hatchback.

Was wondering if there are better alternatives from the experienced guys here

Many thanks

In Vietnam... Prime Target

Stay in hostel and in Vietnam?

Watch your gears carefully ......

Hostels are not secured / safe and alot of bike snatch thieves on the road

I supposed if I buy the camera and not use it, it's kinda waste....
Anyway no choice, just gotta be extra careful, I'll be going also with my s100, places which I feel ain't very safe I'll probably not take out my dslr...

Maybe get travel insurance hopefully I can claim back a bit of money if anything goes wrong...

5D3 with 24-70 during my Bangkok trip back in July.

M9-P with 35 lux.fle and 50 noct during my HK/Macao trip last month. This setup is my current travel gear, fits nicely in a small bag and does not kill my shoulders.

woah, how come you all go overseas carry so many gears?? i thought it's always more convenient to travel light? for me i will just bring my 7D with 24-70. and nothing else...

i guess most of us are hobbyists, and if we dont bring out the gear we bought for holidays, why bother buying so much :p

I tend to travel with my 5D, one UWA and one portrait lens (50mm or 135mm) + 270 3x flash.

small trips/less important trips i bring my m4/3 gear, feel very carefree haha

I was expect my friend bring his GX1 + 14-42, but he forget to bring it, so LL use prime lens on my GF2 :(

Hello chaps, during my recent trip to Paris, I've brought the following which includes, D700, 24-70, 85, 35, sb800, lee filters and also a tripod! All in the lowepro pro runner x350 aw.

I would recommend having a roller as it's very very convenient and not tiring at all at the end of the day!

For my UK trip back in jan, I got my Ep-3 with my fisheye 8mm and 14-42mm and for my up coming myanmar trip, i will bring Ep-3 with my 8mm, 12mm, 25mm and 45mm along with my pouch of 4x filters =)

i went for a road trip in Aussie a month ago. it was winter then and i experienced pretty heavy rain along Great Ocean road.

Stuff I brought:
5dm2 x1
24-105mm f/4 x 1
50mm f/1.4 x 1
430exII x 1
Sirui tripod x 1
GND filters x 1 set.
LP-E6 x 2

the 5dm2 stopped shooting on the 3rd day of my trip despite of all the gaffer tape i used on it. damn disappointing. I used my friend's 550d to shoot for the rest of my trip. Even shot in the snow with the 550d at Tasmania.

My advice is to always carry a backup camera body. And also have a compact with you just in case.

Sorry to hear that. Was it the temp or the rain (or both) that caused t? Did you shoot in the weather? What was the temp?

I used a 5D w 16-35 in Yosemite. Dry/10-15degrees celcius. Worked fine until battery door broke (secure with tape).

Moving on, I would love to bring rf for travelling but I dont know how to deal with the lack of focal lengths beyond 50 (R4M). 75? 135?
