What are the main differences between Standard zoom & Telephoto zoom lenses

Hi All,

Pls forgive my ignorance here, not really up there with these tech jargons. Confused between these two terms Standard & Telephoto zoom.

I was looking for a 70-200 zoom lens for basic party & travel shooting.

Kindly educate me. Thanks a ton.

There are 3 main types of zooms:

- Wide zooms, which cover wide angles, usually wider than 30mm
- Standard zooms, typically covering about 28mm to about 70mm
- Telephoto zooms, which cover telephoto angles, usually 70mm and longer

There are also the all-in-one zooms that cover everything. The 70-200 would be a medium telephoto zoom

So it only signifies the range, the technology behind it is all the same is it?!
