Use of your tripod for Shooting..

Using of tripods in machineguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, recoiless canon, anti-tank missiles and guns, etc etc had been in the military since before WWI. So what is so special of this?
The tripod shown was actually specially designed for military uses and not the same tripod that are used to support your camera. I don't expect the tripod that we used could withstand the shock, vibration and impact of a rifle or missile launcher.
Of course if you are rich enough and could get your hands on a tripod designed for military usage (especially one that could withstand a load of more than 25kg or 30kg - which was incidently the weight of a anti-tank missile launcher, and can withstand the constant vibration and shocks of a weapon firing on top of it) and adapt that to your camera, then it could be very interesting indeed... you might have one of the most stable tripod in the world (not to mention, a very cool looking one too.)

Personally had used GPMG & saw, which both comes with their own BIPOD, at least that's wat I remembered,
Ya bro rhino is right, those bipod comes with the guns, it's extremely hardy,
I tink even gitzo wun last 5rounds on a GPMG,
But it's really amazing how they start using it since half a century ago,

Yeah, during my recent ICT, I was thinking that the GMPG's tripod/stand reminded me of the Induro Hi Hat ;p

lol i remember that tripod when i was doing my specialist training... Its a piece of horse **** that you have to lug around.... no joke...
Imagine lugging that tripod modified to fit your camera, then your 1DX or D4, with a 600mm lens or Siggy 300-800mm lens, flash (with flash extender) and your big backpack full of other equipment and most probably one more body with a 70-200mm f2.8 lens and some other lenses like wide angle and macro across a hill or a mountain, hiked for twelve hours under searing heat...

Wah lau... I carried the GPMG tripod in my cadet days together with my regular load and died after a mere 5 min. Really no fun at all... I wouldn't want to recreate that experience which going for a shoot.
All 6061 aluminium, weighs ~7kg+.
Central column is 4" alu pipe, 3mm thick walls, supposed to take a load of ~50kg.
This thing is supposed to hold power supplies and laptops together with a telescope and its german equatorial mount. Everything's loaded on, so just push out, jack up, align and calibrate, and start imaging.
