You may have an eye for the perfect framing and composition but if you use the wrong aperture and shutter settings, do you still think the picture is well taken? The main thing of photography is not just about composition. Photography = Exposure + composition. Both equally important.
I never say that it is not important to know exposure and stuff. What is more important was framing and composition, get that right first. aperture and shutter setting can be learned later on... that is how I start off. I use program mode or auto mode on my DSLR first, until I think I am okay with framing and stuff before playing with aperture and shutter.
And for that, you don't really need a DSLR... in actual fact a mirrorless work very very well... oh... one more thing 'correct exposure' can be achieved with 'program' mode... and all camera had this mode too...
