The end of the Tang dynasty?

Remembered once upon a time, a hong kong film was made there, with artistes like the late Lesile Cheung in it. Anyway, I was very young then. The place was over-crowded, with nothing much to see, except for men hooked on wires being swang around by cranes .... i thought it was a doomed to be a failure. Actually, the whole place sucks. Glad that it's gone for now. R.I.P.

.... hmmm, why not they just turned it into a third casino - one and only in the west ....

That was what I felt from Day one when they conceptualised it. Simple minded execs at TCS who think they could jump start Singapore as the main hub for all asia movies back then....ya right like they can beat HK, Japn or Taiwan...and now..look also at Korean.

maybe they were planning ahead, like 1000 years later, the place will become some world historical heritage site ...

you don't say ... my secondary school teacher once told us, she was with a tour group in Suzhou, when the guide was introducing some historical monument to the group, one Singaporean exclaimed ''chay! Singapore also have in Chinese Gardens, China copy us!'' ... ... ... :what:

What about replaced it with another IR with an ancient China flavour?

Casino Tang?

The place is doomed from the start, marketing not good too

well, they dun understand what people wants...

or can turn into upmarket Condo? can name it Imprial Fortress!

Let's look at what worked and what didn't.

Our Zoo and Jurong Bird Park.

Sentosa - it was almost dead at one time, like the Asian Civilisation etc and now, the immensely successful Song of the Sea and the upcoming IR.

HawPar Villa - ? ? ?

Big Splash at the East Coast - currently under demolition.

The original bugis street - this was a huge tourist attraction during the 60s and 70s with the pasar malam and the ah gua. Even my angmo professor was a big fan of this place then. I think it was a big mistake to replace it with a spanking Bugis Junction.

Tang Dynasty - I dunno if this is true - there was a "brothel", the traditional kind complete with models acting as the whores. Some Ah Pek actually asked the models the price for the service. The reply was they are models, but they do not sell their bodies. The brothel was close done immediately - shortly after, they closed down the entire place. Now, how about transplanting the entire Geylang to this place. Hotel 81 in pagoda shape, coffee shops in Chinese teahouse style, the Lorongs, the backlanes and even the wayang police raids and of course, the traditional brothels, legal or otherwise.

I think we are simply too "clean" and too sanitized. And too much government control over everything. If we were to let go a little bit, things could happen. Geylang, the huge red-light district is beginning to appear in tourist guide-books in Europe. Just that we cannot have too much control to kill the trade.

hahahah that is a good one. You might be right. Problem is...another group of "execs" took over and want to try to "jump start" something else heheh.

hehe...that "ang mo" you might want to know was George W Bush hor heeeeeeeeeee

ya loh, agree tthat too tight a control will kill any ideas. not everything is like science lab where there's oni 1 variable.

mayb wad happened to Tang Dynasty is there got power struggle. battle royal of sorts? :bsmilie:

they should just leave it abandoned, clear the dangerous debris...and let birds and wildlife take over...and allow people to go in shoot nature photography. :bsmilie:
