Sony Alpha a6500

Today read in ST, those on preorder can collect their A6500 from 27 Dec. Meaning ppl like me will have to wait longer as I did not pre order. Will miss using it for my upcoming trip overseas but definitely will not miss capturing the moments there using my Nex 6. Will travel light.

what lens is good for portrait to go with this A6500 ? thanks

I would suggest FE 55 1.8 or FE 50 f1.8 to get a 75-80mm eq. At least that's my plan.

Thanks bro, will check out that lens.

Last question, for food, what lens is good to go with this A6500 ? thanks

I think it really depends on your working distance. Studio vs casual tabletop shoot because the min shooting distance would matter.
I would use the 90 Macro with a7 body as my first choice but it's too long for impromptu or aps-c shooting use.

Maybe you can consider the FE 50 macro or 30 E macro or your own use.

However, I think for food, proper lighting is more important than getting a sharp lens. Proper strobe or flash with orange gels would really help imo.

Just bought it locally.😀

Wow. Singapore had stock for 6500 liao so any price diff as compare to pre-order

From my perspective, if you require just what A6000 offer then get it, otherwise if the added functions that A6500 offers is the kind photographic tool you require then get that.
Sony segmented it as such. A6000 will not be phase out when A6500 is introduced.

I know, everyone wished they are priced similar becoz A6500 is an upgrade of A6300 etc..but actually they segment it into 3 categories.

It's again the question of what u need versus what you want.

Can you explain what kind of segmentations that Sony is doing for the A6xxx series. As with any other camera manufacturers, I can only discern incremental improvement in functions and capabilities as they release newer models in order to entice people to buy.

Got one and what I can say is IBIS is very good. Focusing is quite good and touchscreen works fine and with LAEA3 with my SAL16-50f2.8.
I have migrated to A6500 from A6000 mainly due to IBIS as I like to shoot with tele like 135mmf2.8, 100mmf2, 200mm,f2.8 SAL70-400, Sigma150-500 which the A6000 cant really handle well.

Some sample shots with A6500 | Laea4 | Sigma 150-500mm EX DG HSM APO
Used the A6500 IBIS and Sigma OS is OFF
All photos shot @ 500mm

Is it me or the images are a bit soft?

The full res is reasonably sharp wide open for Sigma though Sony 70-400G sharpness is way better it's just that Sigma range is better.

anyone has any updated price on the A6500? Just checked with Harvey Norman and it's $1899 there. 18-105 F/4 at $729 and Zeiss 16-70 F/4 at $1099 (when purchased with body)

Would like some feedback,
Is the touchscreen laggy likw what others say ?
Battery life ok ?

seems fine from the YouTube reviews i've been seeing. but i've also yet to own one.

just dropped by the IT show. a6500 going for $1849 with a bunch of freebies like extra battery, carrying case, screen protector, manfrotto cleaning kit, 64gb micro SD card. if you purchase any E-mount lens along with like like 16-70, they give you another cleaning kit with B+W UV filter as well. 16-70 going for $1099 and 18-105 going for $699. hope this helps.
