If anyone is interested in getting a the sports version in nikon mount and can't find it in the shops can check out this deal ~ http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1516186 P
Potentially very poisonous! Thank goodness I already have a similar focal length and aperture lens. Good luck with your sale man.
The tamron ? Its time to upgradeeeeee.. u pm me i give u good deal lol. i throw in TC cheap cheap.. haha
MLMLWML hahaha actually I'm eyeing one of the AI-S 500 f4P or 600 f5.6 to use on my Nex 6 and D750. I really like the focus peaking on my Sony e+a-mounts so prob will keep my Tamron for now (unless a good offer comes along for it)
A real pity Nikon cant implement focus peaking yet.
Yes, the AFS 328 non-VR (both ver I and II) is a much sought after lens. When my friend sold it to me, there were like 3 to 4 people waiting and wanting to get it from him. He is sort of like my sifu in birding and he sold it to me. Even before I sold it, a couple of friends already told me they want it if I ever thought of selling it. In the end sold it to my friend whom I introed birding. Passing it on from generation to generation.
I birded 1.5 years with the 328 with TCs. It is actually good enough for 80% of birding needs. 604 is more than enough. Key is to mix and match with TC and APSC and FF cams.
Reach is one thing... distance to subject is always an issue too, because your lens must be good enough to resolve. The further out your subject the more you make it tougher. Which is why I think TC on zoom lenses usually does not yield very good results especially when your subject is small and far away.
So the other parts of birding comes in, not just gear. To know the birds well, their behaviors, to be able to get closer and yet not disturb them. When you can get closer, then you will be able to take much better pictures too (must blurrer/cleaner background). Birding is not just about reach and focal length.
I may raise some controversy here by saying this... this is what my sifu taught me. Want to shoot good bird photos, must use good tripod, must use good head. If you handhold or use a monopod even, you might get lucky with some shots, but when push comes to shove, in less than ideal conditions, your images will suffer from shake, micro vibrations etc...
Hi guys
I have the old 150-500mm.
Wana know whether 500mm to 600mm, the extra 100mm, is it very significant?
When birding 100mm can be very significant. More reach is always welcome.
And if comparing to the Sports version, the improvement in optical quality is astounding.
Just bought this lens and tested it at Satay By The Bay. Didn't need any calibration with my D810 and I am pretty satisfied with the image quality. Considering it is a quarter the price of a Nikon 600mm lens,I can't complain about the sharpness I am getting. A few sample shots:

I got it for $2488 from Artworkfoto at Funan. All other shops seemed to be out of stock.
