Profoto has just announced the A1, their first-ever on-camera flash. the worlds smallest studio light.
Our focus with the A1 was to create a flash that delivers a truly high quality of light, which is why it features a round head which delivers light thats both natural and beautiful with a pleasing soft-smooth fall-off, that blends seamlessly with the ambient light, says Profoto.
The A1 comes with both a flash and an LED modeling light. The flash can fire 350 times at full power of 10.0 (76Ws) on one Li-ion battery charge, which takes 80 minutes to charge fully Profoto claims it's battery lasts four times longer than AA batteries and has no performance fade.
Profoto A1 has a maximum power of 76Ws (10.0), 9 f-stops (2.0 - 10.0, recycle time of a mere 1.2 seconds at full power and Profoto claims it's 4 times faster the other on-camera flashes. Having normal sync and remote control up to 300 m (1000 ft). TTL and HSS up to 100 m (330 ft).
In terms of size and weight, the A1 measures 108x75x165mm and weighs 560g (with batteries).
The A1 also features a magnetic mount on the flash head for various light modifiers (will try if magmod works with it), the A1 Light Shaping Tools kit - Doom Diffuser, Bonuce Card, Soft Bounce, Wide lens, Gels kit. All modifiers are magnetic and can be put on and off easily. A1 also allow zooming, which can be done by turning the zoom ring for adjustments to light spread.
You can shoot A1 off camera with it's bulit in Air remote, it works with other A1 flashes and existing Profoto lights. A1 also have features like HSS, a TTL/MAN switch, and autofocus assist.
