question on Lens

Hello, I am a complete newbie who just bought a C740

I asked for an adapter and uv lens and was given :

1 kenko lens adapter 45.6~37mm
1 tokina skylight 1-a 37mm

After going thru Olmpus Website, the forum here, realised that i need a 55 mm adapter rather than a 37 mm, isit true ?

As i may need a TeleConverter later~TCON1.7 which is 55mm?

or is there other ways? anyway what is the diff btwn adapter and step up ring ?

If I am not wrong, you can't mount lens directly on the camera but required an adapter right ?
a step up ring is one that allows you to mount a larger sized lens on your adapter. eg. your
adaptar is 37mm, so need a 37mm to 55mm step up ring to mount the 55mm lens on it. Correct me
if I am wrong.
