Qn regarding Beauty Dish

Hi all I have seen some people using "beauty dishes" for photoshoots, how is this better than the average light of say harsh/umbrella/softbox? Also what is the standard size of a beauty dish to be considered useful ??

It gives much more fall-off (ie. large feathered circle of light) than a softbox, constrasty yet somewhat soft at the same time..

I think surrephoto have used the beauty dish before for portraiture shots.
Maybe you can approach him for more information on the beauty dish?
