Recently I went to Malaysian F1 GP at Sepang and took some pictures. I was using Nikon AFS VR 70-200 mm zoom and occasionally used 2X teleconverter on a D300 body. I was using Continuous mode autofocus all the time, and have the VR on. After shooting for an hour or so, suddenly the autofocus freezed and it would not focus. The camera still function, so I have to focus manually.
After an hour or so, I retried, and the auto focussing worked on and off. Initially I thought there is something wrong with my lens, but the lens is focussing ok now. The problem persisted eventhough I changed focusing to S mode. I am not sure if any of you have experienced something like this. And if so please share.
The problem went away once I changed the lens. It is frustrating to be at a race and your camera system was not working well.
