Ethernet port (RJ-45 connection) is the most common networking connection type. Just get a network card if your PC doesn't have a built-in one.

the free ethernet modem only 1 port. can share? i not very technical.

If u thinking of sharing ur broadband at home, do check with Singnet on the adsl ethernet modem carefully if there's any limitations to use it for sharing via router. Ethernet port is super cheap nowadays. Cheaper than u can imagine.

Do not get USB modem in any case :)

Is that an RJ-45 port? (looks like a telephone port, but slightly bigger)
If it is, then it's good news, all you need in the future is a router and you can share the connection.

If you're unsure, why not tell us the Modem's brand and model number? It's always easier that way :) (can also take a pic and post it)

One question guys,

My ADSL moderm has got both UBS and Ethernet connections and my PC can use both.

Will there be a speed difference? Which one is faster?
USB = 11 Mbit
USB 2 = 400 M bit
Ethernet = 10 or 100 M bit
ADSL = 256k , 512k , 1500k ... slower than above

so no different in speed. But for stability, Ethernet is much better.

i believe there are some researches conducted regarding comparison of usb2 and firewire. and apparently usb2 that is rumored to be faster than firewire, doesnt perform as well as it should be.. this has been proven by many dual usb2-firewire user such as myself as well...

back to d topic... i support ethernet card fixed to ur comp... hehehe...

You can get a ALL-IN-ONE ADSL modem comes with
- Wireless
- USB/Ethernet
- Multiple ports

try 2WIRE HomePortal 1800HG :thumbsup:

btw, what is your budget ???

get cable lah.. adsl cannot make it..

Okay, if you are deciding on either ethernet of USB... go for ethernet!

If I am correct, ethernet is independant of the OS your are using, whereas USB is OS dependant. And since you are given a choice to choose, go for Ethernet.

For cable, yes, I must agree it is fast, provided the area you are in do not have a lot of cable user, if not, you will be sharing the bandwidth with them, then, it will be slow. See it as a water-pipe with a lot of outlet, the more outlet, the least water and force it will come out.

Whereas for broadband, it is a dedicated water-pipe to you. No one sharing with you.

But since you already take it up with SingNet, no point thinking about cable lah. All the best for you with your service with SingNet man....

(Someone please correct me if my info is wrong hor.... thank you)

coz he is using cable :think: :bsmilie:

Unless he download alot of mp3 and porn then cable is much faster.....but.....
dun get caught by the police man! ;p
If the cable alot of ppl share the same bandwidth with him, he also LPPL and ding-dong-bell ma! Paying extra $$$ for ppl to share his bandwidth...haha :bsmilie:

hmm.. by wat i observed till now, since ive used 56k, cable n bband.. cable is actually faster by ALOT when u want to receive something big such as bittorrent file. whereas bband is faster in sending stuff... but i believe now cable is much faster and provides better bandwidth compare to bband or adsl in that matter... though i dun regret using wireless bband now, if i got a chance, i'd chg fr cable...

Go for ethernet for sure. Anyway a new ethernet card for our PC costs only $10-15 at sim lim. You can get it installed in 5 mins.
