Perhaps I should really plan for a trip to Iran.

BTW, any idea if we get profiled by Gov if we do go?
I am not worried about being there, more than being targeted by my own gov and future places that I go to when they see that I've been to Iran.

For sure you will be checked thoroughly. The recent stories about IS volunteers has brought the attention to everyone traveling into the region.
You might also want to check your previous visa in passport. Iran's immigration officers are very sensitive towards visa from countries like USA, Israel etc.
