P & S as backup

I would recommend Panasonic Lumix TZ7. I bought this camera about a month ago and thought it was really a good buy. It should cost you about S$550+/- if you pay cash..

You may have to up your budget in order to find a camera that fits your requirements.

i know PnS but why not an older DSLR like 350D with a tele or zoom? $500 or less should do it

if you are willing to spend more, i was thinking one of those water-resistant/dust-resistant/cold-resistant cameras might give you better peace of mind
i guess the point here is you want something portable that can capture memories if your dslr fails? and image quality probably won't be top priority
