If you meant what you said, then I have to conclude you are not doing a very good job with the so-called "responsible comments" you made in post #23.

The statements are tasteless, crude and demeaning to the model.
can't say it better myself.

personally i like pictures 2482,2485 and 2476 from the oriental series, my only comment is that for those three pictures you could try styling the kimono abit, because it seemed too horizontal and kinda stop the eyes midway thru the sensual contours.
second the lighting isn't very balanced.
the bridge between higlight mid and shadow are too drastic, maybe you could control the light better or have a bounce to soften it up

you are using a softbox am i correct?
maybe you could put the box closer to her and turn down the power a little, because the lighting seemed "by the way" like its hitting her but she's not the subject.
sometimes the light/shadow seemed too distinct and sometimes too murky.

cropping wise, im not very impressed but thats my personal taste, think nothing of it,
but loosen up, and play with your cropping just play.. have fun

peace:thumbsup:

Thanks for comments. and advise. I will try again soon. Did not have much control over styling and styling as a lot of Lau Chiaos and Indian Chiefs around if u know what I mean.

Aiyah,

Sadly our nation has not progressed to that level yet. But slowly we are evolving towards that.

Saying that, there is a fine line between what is ART and what can be seen as pornographic.

Asian values tend to lean to the more conservative as opposed to western values.

Hopefully, sometime in the near future, we will look back on it and laugh it off.

Cheers!

Hi Mods

I am going to post a link to my Pbase account. I hope this is within guidelines of CS.

Warning: Nudity
http://www.pbase.com/myfourthirds/forms

Hi to the rest. Here are my feelings on this particular shoot. It was a nude shoot but when I was shooting (with the rest of the group), I think I just wanted to bring out the best in her, in the composition. There was little feeling of sexuality and even if i (or any) felt any, i think it's normal because it's a physiological response.

However, like Deadpoet said, SG society had not evolved to that level where we can can look at nudity and distinguish porn from art. We can't think/speak of s** and be comfortable with it (sorry I got to use ** just in case)

Nude need not neccessary be porn.

The human body had been sex-ised by pornographers....
They had been art since the Renaissance era.

Only in the 20th century had graphic nudes been associated with porn.

I believe that smiling models look a bit... unatural at times, especially in this case.

After all has been said, for the many thumbs up and comments.
One question to you - how to contact them? I will pm you anyway.

art doesnt necessary means porn and porn doesnt necessary mean art

HOWEVER

art can be porn as well as porn can be art

Asian values tend to lean to the more conservative as opposed to western values.

I am confused ... ASIAN VALUES?? Aren't these pics taken in CHINA? Isn't China considered Asian? And do you know we ASIANS have a LONG EROTIC HISTORY - when some of the ang mohs were running around in fur - we have the Kama Sutra / the Golden Lotus / the Dream of a Red Chamber..?

Sigh ... i think it's because we were colonised - so Victorian attitudes were imparted onto us ... But then again, in Thailand (which was never colonised) - nudity is still taboo - among the majority in Thai society - let's not talk about artists or photographers - artists (including photographers) - are USUALLY on the fringe of society ...

I pose nude for artists and photographers and I am very proud of what I am doing because this is my CONTRIBUTION to art - I have NO APTITUDE for drawing or taking photos - maybe coz I have VERY POOR eyesight - one thousand degrees of short-sightedness per eye plus very high astigmatism - even if i go for LASIK - doctor said cannot be guaranteed my short-sightedness will be resolved 100%!! But I LOVE ART - also - I have a WONDERFUL HUSBAND - HE SUPPORTS ME 100% - we wish I could earn more money and this could be a full-time job!! But of course even if it is a full-time job - I can't do this forever! I am very interested in Art History / the Philosophy of Art / issues relating to the BODY - like Body Politics / phenemonological stuff / eroticizication versus pornography / and Philosophy of Religion and Art and Religion. My greatest wish is to do my PhD one day along these lines - or to get some grant so that I can do research and write books.

Posing nude for art classes and students can be quite challenging and sometimes I wish I am a dancer - but I do yoga so it helps with balancing and holding the poses. And it is just so GREAT to see the artists and art students produce great work with lots of energy and dynamism and they were inspired to do so by MY POSES!

Anyways - I AM TOTALLY DIGRESSING FROM THE PICS - to the photographer - THEY ARE VERY VERY LOVELY - and she's a beautiful model - the melancholy suits here!! Lovely! As for references to Memoirs of a Geisha - MOAG is very very Hollywoodised version of geishas - have you all ever seen A REAL GEISHA? Most geishas are not that young and pretty - most of them are in their 40s or 50s or 60s - the young ones just go in for some dance training etc for about a few months - then they cabut (run away) coz they just want to do for the fun of it and they absolutely CANNOT COMMIT to the very highly disciplined and strenous training involved!! Anyways - the mood is conveyed - yes - a la MOAG - and yes she does look like Zhang Zi Yi!! Very erotic and sexy - and I agree ABSOLUTELY WITH MATLOCK - Porn can be art! - Please read CAMILLE PAGLIA - she's a French philosopher who argues for the pornography and the ethics and body politics involved in pornography.

Then again - I don't think I can do pornographic stuff - like for example - photographers shooting me or artists drawing me while I am 'flying solo' - or inserting phallic objects into certain parts of my body - because I still think sex - even if it is the flying solo variety - is a private matter for me. BUT BUT BUT - these pics ARE NOT PORNOGRAPHY - GOOD GRIEF - WHY DO WE HAVE TO EQUATE ALL NUDITY WITH SEX AND PORNOGRAPHY?? Just because pubic hair and nipples are shown - it's pornographic??? sheesh ...

Well ... I still call this country home ... and I have this constant love-hate relationship with this country ... and if I do have children in future - I will explain to them about their BODIES - which are GIFTS from the Creator / Divine Energy ...

Just my rant for today - coz I am so absolutely tired of people asking me WHY I WANT TO POSE NUDE ...

I am a little busy now. Hopefully we can work together in future.

Nice work. I like the elegant "feel".

As for social attitudes, everyone has a different perception of what is offensive. It is interesting that while "protecting the children" is one of the most common reasons for opposing displays of nudity or erotica, from experience, most children (not teens) are totally disinterested. Show a young boy a picture of a nude lady and he most likely will go "yukk". I suspect many adults are really protecting themselves from their own impulses.

Personally I enjoy doing nudes, ranging from "artistic" to Hustler as I find it one of the most challenging subjects to do well.

Waow. Very nice picture. The light is just great.
The subject is lovely. I love those 'clair-obscure".

As for the nudity subject. I have been willing to do it and contact some model like Mau Lovers. But I find it a very challenging subject. Not because of personnal reasons, no not really, but more because of photographic challenge. The light seems to me in this case to be more important than ever. To get a nice picture and not something banal to look at and seen everymorning in the shower. Nude picture can be beautiful just because of the shadows, the texture of the skin and so on....

I have taken some pics of my wife during her pregnancy and manage to get some very nice compositions. Unfortunately, I was not technically ready and i pushed the Iso too high ending up having very high noise in the pics.
