O+ blood needed

Hi

My friend's classmate needs people to donate blood platelets (blood type O+) as she has just been diagnosed with Leukemia

Criteria for donors:
- Between 18 to 45 years old
- Weigh at least 50 kg
- Be in good health & not been on any medication (e.g. antibiotics, aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs) for the last 72 hours
- Have good prominent veins on both forearms that can hold up against the suction of the blood separator machine
- Go through a medical screening

Seems donating platelets is different from donating blood.
The screening will cost the patient $100 per person, that's
why all requirements

Poke-u-pine, would you know if the screening and donation can be done in the evenings? i'm O+ and willing, but my timing is a bit off cos i'm only free in the evenings.

I went for ntu blood donation recently but e Doctor said that 75% of my blood will be wasted cos i have taken anti-malaria pill within last three yrs so i must wait till Dec 2003.And hopefully no more anti-malaria pills.

Yes, it's good for U to list the criteria, if not people's time & your friend's precious money could be wasted.

I've personally donated my blood platelets a few times to strangers at SGH & National Cancer Centre.

But this time unable to help as I'm A+....
