Is Nikon 50mm f1.8G any faster ? Thinking of getting that.

If hunting, perhaps your subject is lacking in contrast for fast and reliable AF-lock. Or your subject moving around and you were in the wrong AF mode. Best to eliminate the other possibilities of error, before jumping on the blame bandwagon.

There are many forms of AF system, some measure the distance and set the lens to the correct distance then they shoot (old AF point and shoot film compact camera) another type is using contrast of the image to determine whether is it focus or not (dslr) this is why a plain white wall and dark situation may cause your camera to hunt.
Last but not least is that most lenses has a minimum focal length which means that the lens can only focus subject that is further than the minimum focal distance. Any thing less than the lens cannot focus and this will also cause hunting to the af system (to solve this get a macro lens or adapter to reduce the minimum focal length)
If not wrong 35mm f1.8 minimum focus is 0.3m which is roughly 1 arm away.
hope this help
Ahhh I see, then perhaps the 35/1.8 really doesn't focus fast enough to meet your needs. I personally feel it is adequate, though certainly not lightning fastlotus80 said:Hunting is the problem and my baby is never stable
your arm so short meh? 30cm is really very short leh. I think my fingertips to my elbow already >30cm. And 30cm is measured from sensor plane, so from front of lens it's more like 23cm or thereabout
