wee hee buy a mac... displays are second accurate to SGI. (silicon graphics)

no spy ware... no blaster virus... hardly any viral/hardware compatibility/OS support/ problems.

G5s are not the best 64bit processors around.. so get a good old back stock G4 (dual 1.25GHz, or sorts) and now u can buy good old back stock of old apple displays... =) cos' new one out... old sure to drop... did i say colours are accurate? hahhaa...

or get a 17inch G4 lappy... however i find teh g4 ibooks suffic.

just mac happy! sharing the luv~

Oh and macs work nicly with canon... for a long time now... so maybe the 70% are canon users as well hahaha...the old laser writers and apple inkjets were canon made... and carried stupid labels like "Caution: Do not expose Laserwriter to fire".

but wad impressed me was a studio photog was using teh G4 12inch with a phase one H10 digi-back and capture one softwaer(C1).. he's reletively well known and deals with celebs.
its a real small monster... happy deciding.. i use PCs too dont find anything wrong very wrong with them either..

get an asus motherboard very stable and 3years warranty

512mb ddr400 ram kingston x2

asus graphics card

western digital 120gb HDD x2

oh, u might want to do a striped raid so that the hard disk access is faster.
but be warned that a backup for your storage is very important as striped raid is not suitable for long term storage

thanks guys,
i'm interested in what moos blues said.

but does mac CPU + normal made-for-PC CRT monitor yield the same output as a mac CPU + mac CRT/LCD monitor?

also, how much does a G4 (dual 1.25GHz, or sorts) cost now? of course it's full system without display.

Ah Hah! Haha.. for MAC -> PC CRT you'll probably need some graphics convertor, but so far, I have only heard of PC ppl wanting to use the mac display, which does require a special adaptor for ~$100.

The Dual 1.25GHz is as follows

$3,055.00

Dual 1.25GHz PowerPC G4
2MB L3 cache/processor
256MB DDR333 SDRAM
80GB Ultra ATA drive
Combo Drive
ATI Radeon 9000 Pro
Mac OS 9 boot supported

Superdrive version..

S$ 3,386.00

Dual 1.25GHz PowerPC G4
2MB L3 cache/processor
512MB DDR333 SDRAM
80GB Ultra ATA drive
SuperDrive
ATI Radeon 9000 Pro
Mac OS 9 boot supported

Of course you'll need to up the memory :)

Now.. BUY BUY BUY

oh my goodness.. so expensive!

haha think it's better i stick to PC for the time being.. :)

no graphic convertor needed
at least tt's true for my ibook

i have connected it to my old crt with no problems

ps : i used a port adaptor tt came with the ibook

like i said, get an ibook/powerbook and hook up to your crt

just had to lug my 20kg desktop from 1 hostel room to another. :(
cursing and swearing all the way.

on the bright side, my new room is bigger

hehe it's tempting to get a ibook to hook to my CRT monitor.. but then, i don't have so much budget to start off! i can only fork out around $800 max for a CPU+motherboard+RAM+HDD upgrade :(

OK now have a more solid plan already..

I will be getting the 2.8E (1mb cache)

but i need a motherboard to fully uterlise the P4 2.8E. Top priority must be stable and no free from hardware conflicts.

Price mustn't be too expensive either.

Basic function must have SATA, 800FSB.

:)

consider amd?
