need help in Tamron 17-50MM

I'm planning to get a Tamron 17-50(non vc) either a brand new copy or a 2nd hand copy, Would like to ask, How do I check if the lens got any focusing problem?

Or maybe if any expert can follow me to help me check? if possible ^^ haha.
