Olympique de Marseille 8 vs 2 Manchester United

The match was organised by former Marseille goalkeeper Pascal Olmeta for his children’s charity and although the first half produced some entertaining football, once the majority of the United players were replaced by a selection of guests and celebrities, the floodgates opened.

The first real attempt in the match ended up being the first goal as United failed to clear a Morgan Amalfitano corner properly after 20 minutes and the ball dropped nicely to Nicolas N’Koulou who pulled off a brilliant left-footed volley.

Marseille added a second in the 34th minute through Jordan Ayew as the 19-year-old managed to bundle the ball past several defenders, owing to a favourable ricochet, before side-stepping Evra and finishing past Barthez in the United goal.

United took just two minutes to hit back, however, as Cleverley played a clever through-ball between two defenders for Danny Welbeck to run on to and he made no mistake as he placed the ball into the bottom far corner.

A minute later United found themselves level as Welbeck turned provider as he played Cleverley through on goal who finished brilliantly as he stroked the ball into the corner of the net.

Marseille took the lead once again less than 60 seconds into the second half as Benoit Cheyrou controlled a cleared corner before lashing it into the top corner of the net from range.

The hosts restored their two-goal lead in the 59th minute as Alou Diarra diverted a corner goalwards with a near-post header, and that lead was extended three moments later as Ayew pounced on a defensive error to score easily from close range.

United, who by the 70th minute had just four of their own official first-team players on the pitch, lost another goal 20 minutes from time as Loic Remy eased past a defender and slotted home from seven yards out.

With 10 minutes to go, Marseille grabbed their seventh of the night as Remy got on the end of a cross from the right-wing and unleashed an unstoppable header towards the top far corner, whilst Cheyrou grabbed his second of the match four minutes later as he headed home at the far post.

Sir Alex Ferguson admits Dimitar Berbatov could leave Manchester United
The veteran manager has admitted that the Bulgarian international could leave Old Trafford, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly the frontrunners for his signature

Despite scoring 20 league goals last season for the club, the Bulgarian striker did not even make the bench for the Champions League final against Barcelona at Wembley and was reportedly in tears over his exclusion from the squad.

When asked on French TV whether Berbatov could move to Paris Saint-Germain, Sir Alex said smiling: “Yes, he might. That’s possible.”

Reports claim that United could ask for around £20 million for the striker, which would result in a loss of £10m on the amount they paid Tottenham three years ago.

But United chief executive David Gill revealed at the weekend that the club are not looking to sell Berbatov.

He said: "Everyone has been talking about Berbatov from the outside, saying he wants to leave or that we want him to leave, but we don't want him to go. We want him to stay. He scored 20 goals last season, so there is no desire on our behalf to see him go."

Berbatov began last season as first-choice striker alongside Wayne Rooney, but soon lost his regular starting role to Javier Hernandez.

PSG have spent big this summer after being taken over by new owners, and recently agreed a £37.7 million fee for Chelsea target and Palermo midfielder Javier Pastore.

Reports suggested the French giants were looking to bring Inter striker Samuel Eto’o to the club, but they now look to have switched their attentions to Berbatov.

Papers: Sneijder bid accepted
David Maddock writes in The Mirror...

Inter accept United’s Sneijder offer
Wesley Sneijder will become a Manchester United player this week... if he accepts a restructured pay-deal to move to the Premier League. The Dutch midfielder's club, Inter Milan, have paved the way for a £30million-plus transfer by accepting, in principle, a formal offer United made at the weekend. They are ready to grant Sneijder permission to speak to officials from Old Trafford, and the Mirror understands those talks will take place later this week. The only stumbling block to what would surely be world football's deal of the summer is the player's wage demands, given the tax-favourable status he enjoys while playing in Italy. Sneijder doesn't want to take a pay-cut on a salary that would earn him the equivalent of almost £190,000 a week in the Premier League - which is way outside United's pay structure. The English champions though, are prepared to talk about a sliding pay scale that will see a large basic wage topped up with generous bonuses as well as signing-on fees that will be spread over the length of the contract.

In the second of The Mirror’s two exclusives, Paris St Germain are apparently set to table an offer of £18million for Dimitar Berbatov, taking advantage of the Bulgarian’s reported 'uncertain' future at Old Trafford. The French club are enjoying a revolution under their new Qatari ownership and the Reds striker is their first target.

Elsewhere, the Daily Mail says former United striker Giuseppe Rossi has been taken off the transfer list by current club Villarreal after their financial worries were eased by the sale of winger Santo Cazorla to Malaga – a deal which scuppers Tottenham’s hopes of signing the Italian international.

3 pts in bag, 1st win of the season and away win. :)

2nd goal is lucky strike.. Good start of the season..

The players are too kehki 客气, they need to as greedy as Ronaldo, don't pass around Liao in the d box, like circus, nani was the main culprit if mu threw the 3 points, easy chance cannot score, and the new keeper, hopefully he ain't Massimo Taibi no.2, and he cost 3x more :p

Every season we seem to have defenders injured together.. Time to get more defenders to replace the ageing one.
