Yes, the A1 Grand Prix team is privately sponsored. The only Govt involvement that I know of is the unveiling of the race car by Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Vivian Balakrishnan. After that... nil, zilch, nothing.

It cost up to USD$6million to sponsor a team for one season. None of the usual local sponsors were helping out. I'm refering to traditional sponsors like Singapore Pools, Tiger Beer, etc.

The team is such bad shape that they are currently under 'caretakership' by the A1 organisers. That is another way of saying that "You guys dun have the money to race but I'm gonna continue to let you race out of pity."

For more info, you can drop by my blog. I have posted an entry on the A1 Grand Prix here

Its one of the things I'm deeply saddened with the motorsports scene here in Singapore.

On a side note, Denis Lian and Hhafiz Koh has left the team, the reason being that they can't afford so many of them. Christian Murchison is a Singaporean currently living in Australia. He has won quite a few trophies and is one of our best hopes I should say.
