[limwl27] APWP 2014 - Between cityscape and kids

13 Oct 2014 (Mon) - Mount Alvernia Hospital
Sony A7S on VC 12mm f5.6 @ 1/60 / f8 / ISO100

Shot through the window of the lift lobby of the new medical centre. Nice view from the taller building around this area.

16 Oct 2014 (Thu) - Playing with the pomelo
Sony A7S on FE 35mm f2.8 @ 1/60 / f2.8 / ISO2000

Insisted on playing with the pomelo while watching her fav TV shows. I am testing out Capture One so processing seems a bit too saturated. Then again it could be the Zeiss lens rendering too. The purple cast on the face is due to the TV programme. Since selling my VC35 f1.4, I am loving this lens more and more. Compact, light and sharp images.

17 Oct 2014 (Fri) - Point blocks again
Sony A7S on VC 12mm f5.6 @ 20s / f8 / ISO100

Took this to test processing of landscape/cityscape using Capture One. It's been awhile since I took a blue hour shot and with a new body too. So far, it looks good except for the focusing. I am not sure if I miss the focusing or it's due to the haze.

18 Oct 2014 (Sat) - Asleep again after milk
Sony A7S on FE 55mm f1.8 @ 1/80 / f1.8 / ISO125

Taking a portrait of the baby while she is asleep. <3 the eye focusing of A7. I shot this wide open at around 0.5m and the focusing is spot on.

The big one sulking because we scolded her for going into the kitchen. Again, I am using eye focusing and it works very well. Getting lazy :p

Sony A7S on FE 35mm f2.8 @ 1/80 / f2.8 / ISO200

22 Oct 2014 (Wed) - Close-up on my daughter
Sony A7S on Contax 85mm f1.4 @ 1/100 / f1.4 / ISO640

Brought my Contax 85mm out to shoot around. I had a close focusing helicoid attached to focus this close.

23 Oct 2014 (Thu) - Bishan Point Blocks (again)
Sony A7S on VC 21mm f4 @ 30s / f11 / ISO200

Recently got myself a used VC21 f4 so I tested it out on my usual scene. Was disappointed that the corners are soft though there is no colour shift at the sides. I like the clean 10 point starburst it renders though.

24 Oct 2014 (Fri) - Cup noodle challenge
Sony A7S on FE 35mm f2.8 @ 1/60 / f2.8 / ISO400

Stock taking for the cup noodle challenge!

25 Oct 2014 (Sat) - Condo swimming pool
Sony A7S on VC 21mm f4 @ 30s / f11 / ISO125

Took the chance to go down after dinner to take a quick test shot with my new lens. I am aiming to test out the starburst at a closer distance. It's very clean and nice. I am beginning to <3 this lens :p

26 Oct 2014 (Sun) - Sleeping
Sony A7S on Rokkor 58mm f1.2 @ 1/160 / f1.2 / ISO100

Still sleeping a lot in the day.

27 Oct 2014 (Mon) - Cup noodle challenge
Sony A7S on FE 35mm f2.8 @ 1/60 / f2.8 / ISO500

Part of the stock that will be used at the challenge.

28 Oct 2014 (Tue) - Random office shots
Sony A7S on Rokkor 58mm f1.2 @ 1/80 / f1.2 / ISO100

Manual focus practising after lunch!

29 Oct 2014 (Wed) - Asleep
Sony A7S on FE 55mm f1.8 @ 1/60 / f1.8 / ISO12800

Took the chance to test out the high ISO performance of A7S. Lighting is pretty bad, just the single table light to the right. The grains are there but the colour retention is good. On my old A7, this shot is achievable at 6400 but the brown headboard will look weird.

30 Oct 2014 (Thu) - Drawing in school
Sony A7S on VC 35mm f1.2 @ 1/60 / f1.2 / ISO100

She likes drawing more than going back it seems. With kids, you always need to keep the camera in hand. They have lots of expressions :D

31 Oct 2014 (Fri) - Cup of tea for you?

2 Nov 2014 (Sun) - Sisters
Sony A7S on Rokkor 58mm f1.2 @ 1/60 / f1.2 / ISO250

After coaxing the elder one for a few mins, she finally agreed to lay still for me to take a "posed" shot. I didn't bring out my reflector so I adjusted the shadows in PP. Lighting is also not very good. Will try another one next weekend nearer to the window.

2 Nov 2014 (Sun) - Night in the heartlands
Sony A7S on VC 12mm f5.6 @ 8s (62s with app) / f8 / ISO400 / Light Trail app

I recently bought the Light Trail app and decided to try out. I set the exposure is set to 8s but keep it open for 62s to capture the light trails on this rather deserted road. I also use a wider aperture (f8) and higher ISO (400) to be able to get some of the brake lights (not showing up very well though). Overall, I would say the app (with my setting) is pretty good for oncoming headlight. I'll find another time to test this again.

Yes, it's the same (or similar). I never got to try out as EM1 still don't have it when I switched so I cannot be sure.

For the A7S app, you set the exposure to correctly capture the scene first, i.e. 8s f8 ISO400 for my case. When you press the shutter, it'll be like bulb mode until the 8s when the correctly exposed scene will show up on the. After that, it will continue to run to get the trails (which will show in almost realtime) and the scene will not be overexposed. Once you feel it's enough, just press the shutter again to stop and it can be saved as RAW as in my photo above.
