If you still have sufficient saving/strong earning power to convince her marriage is not a problem, just go ahead. Your gf may not really care about how much you spend on your hobby, but how much you've left after spending on your hobby. She simply does not like to be treated less important than hobbies. I think there are people who fail to see this and yapping away "wah, so early CFO liao ah?" "not your wife yet so scared liao?". No, most girls just want security and if you spend more than saving up for marriage, you are not showing her any.

If you do love her, be a man and own up. Say the purchase will be a long term investment, cut down buying more stuffs (tough, I know) and keep to your promise. She is gonna be A LOT more angry when she finds out you have lied to her after a long time. Girls generally have sharp eyes and remember your every single purchase. Mine does.
