How do you achieve this? Possible hypothesis?

what are the possible methods he might have used to achieve such sharpness and flash isolation? dont tell me slow shutter speed slow sync and all that standard stuff to achieve the light effects. Theres a special quality to these pics.. isit because its film? or is he using a flash snoot? hmm..

Looks like it's shot using Quantum flash, or any types using bare bulb/reflectors.

It looks like long exposure front curtain flash ( focussed shot exposed and flashed then exposure continue to draw in natural light, thus subject sharp but the rest doesn't matter ) flash position looks high and possibly reflected OFF a card.

Flash isolation is due to play with the aperture, not media.

Next time try this.. shoot at least 3 or more stops under, by using long shutter speeds of say, more than 3 seconds. Bounce ur flash from a bounce card (think that's what he did here), take a photo. After the flash, shift your camera away, point towards some light sources, then shake your camera around like it's on drugs.
