used to suffer from these black spot a lot. they are fungi.

after i bought my dryer (bosch) and dry my towels with them.... NO MORE fungi. I am sure the heat kill off most of them anyway.

towel are left to dry with quite a lot of water after we shower that why.... very easy to grow on towel.

The trick is to use bleach. BEFORE you wash the towels (this works great for underwear too, you want those nice and clean). Get a bucket and put water in it. For every liter of water, put 1 tablespoon of bleach. Soak the clothes in there for 30 minutes, then wash normally. Works wonders!

yeah man, all fungi sure die.

Also, it is VERY important that you eliminate the other infections of fungus. This means getting some "Mr. Action Mold killer" or "Toilet Duck Mold Killer". Spray direct onto bathroom tiles, or 1 squirt on a moist rag (to dilute it a bit) for walls.

For your clothes cabinets, spray them out with lysol. You need to kill the mold spores or else they will just re-infect your clothes.

And the benefit is that in those small concentrations, it won't really affect the color of your fabrics.

Now who here has got underwear in front with black spot?

You better see a doc.

Hi all,

Those who love in flats who do not sun-dry their clothes, particularly towels... do you notice that they turn black in patches over time? Like there's some fungus growing or something after a while? Noticed this happenning for some time now and always attributed it to the fact that I dry my clothes indoors. Is there a way to prevent this short of hanging them out the window on poles? (Don't do it because dunno what ppl upstairs throw out their windows, and we're not home most of the time). Never had this problem living in my mum's place where we would hang the clothes outside in the sun..
I don't think it's because we don't dry them enough after washing.. It's probably because it was hung in the bathroom and it didn't get a chance to get dry. I have this problem too.. Maybe aircon makes it worse because of condensation after the aircon is turned off...

The sunlight has something that kills some organisms.
I think the black patch is a form of Fungi.
Fungi grows where there is no sunlight.
The something is probably more well known as UV.

wash with hot water and clorox (bleech) to prevent

Aiyaa... I meant to also kill any bacteria that can accumulate from sweating. Trust me, when it comes to a sudden, unexpected romantic encounter, it's good to have fresh-smelling underwear... ;)

my turn black all the time9 after about 2-3 months and i just get new ones. i think if you use them and wash them immediately they will be ok. cos the rest of te garments don have this problem. and i would say the only the differences is sometimes i left towel handing over the shower curtains to dry....then got ' gu kia'...term given to these black spots from the older generation. at least thats what my ma calls them.

You put Clorox with EVERY wash?

No. But usually once a month I'll soak my towels, socks, undies and "around the house t-shirts" in the bleach/Chlorox solution before washing them. Works like a charm.

Not only black spot when u don't sun dry your cloth. Even those guys' fresh shirts or T-shirt that gives off a strong pungent smell of sweat the moment u start perspiring especially if u don't dry them in the sun after washing.

Yeah, I know what you mean by that also. Geez, maybe I will need to invest in a drier after all..

any good and reliable dryers to recommend?? i hate the black stuff ruining my towels, too! abit 'sayang' to throw just after a few uses.

what you guys need, is a novita dehumidifier.

i keep my room at 50-60% RH.

no mould problems.
