1. in what area is critique to be sought?
Composition.
Exposure.
Others are welcome.

2. what one hopes to achieve with the piece of work?
I hope to capture the natural smiles of these kids and show that they are tourist with the attire they have.
3. under what circumstance is the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
Picture was taken while they were posing for their mum to take a photo of them. I managed to shoot at them in a candid form.
4. what the critique seeker personally thinks of the picture
I really love the smiles of the kids and i regretted bot being able to shoot it with the merlion that they were posing as. I only shows this picture as a portrait shot i guess.

Ok, I'll start the ball rolling.

As you have pointed out, it'll be a better idea to shoot the kids with the Merlion that they were posing as. You can try juxtaposing their hand-positions with that of the Merlion, etc.

The photograph, in its current form, lacks context. There is no visual anchor and unfortunately the direction of both child's eyes led me OUT of the picture.
