I went to

Jeju Isle (see all the korean drama shooting places and scenery)
Everland
Lotteworld (Much better than everland)
Grand Palace
Some big Temple
Museum
Muju Ski Resort (very beautiful hotel)
YongPyong Ski Resort (awesome ski slopes, v. good)
This temple in the mountains (STUNNING)
Ginseng
Cordyceps
Amethyse ? (Waste of bloody time)
DongDaemun mkt ?
Hotspring
Stayed at Grand Hilton, Soeul
I got really sick of the food after day 3 man.

i just came back from there too,

was rather disappointed cause the tour guide only give me like 15 mins to take shots at mount sorak. it's windy there and quite slippery with thin layer of ice.

rather cold so i suggest u insulate ur tripod legs.

i got bad motion sickness so taking photos at theme parks is the best time for me.

Everland >
Everland is an amusement park, some of the outdoor rides might be a bit too cold to ride in winter. ie:The rollercoaster. They have a night parade which is pretty nice and colourful. If your tour group is staying until the evening, most likely your tour guide will bring you to see this multimedia show called Olympus Fantasy, got some nice laser and firework display.

Daemyung Vavaldi Park Resort >
Ski resort, quite close to Yongpyong Ski Resort, so they might bring you to there to see the Winter Sonata shoot locations.

Mt Sorak Shinhengsa temple >
Mt Sorak have a bit of frost now. If the weather is cloudy, the scenery is very nice when the clouds flow over the top of the mountain range.
Shinhengsa temple is at the foot of the mountain, got some nice statues there.

Namdaemum market >
A few streets with a lot of clothing stores and some restaurants. A lot of souvenir stores too, so good for street photography.

Myongdong >
Upmarket district a bit like Holland Village but a few times bigger. A lot of trendy fashion shops, restaurants. Girls paradise for shopping. (And yes, a lot of pretty girls here to take pictures of.)

Gingseng shop, Cordyceps shop, Amethyst showroom>
Erm, opportunity for the tour guides to earn some commission.

Lotte World >
Amusement park in Seoul with outdoor and indoor sections. The indoor section is quite amazing. You have rides inside a 4 storeys dome, with 2 basement floors of restaurants and a skating rink. The basement have long shopping alleys that leads to a nearby subway station, so the whole place is quite big.

Kyongbok Palace >
Part of it is under renovation now, so sort of spoil part of the landscape. But can concentrate on the colour architecture of the place, if you can get the tourists out of sight.

National Museum >
No photography allowed inside I think.

FIFA WC 2002 stadium >

Sharaton walker hill hotel >
Entrance to the casino will have two beautiful girls in beautiful hanboks for you to take pictures off. ^^

Hi,

Firstly, thanks to Prismatic for highlighting what to look for.

Also, is it possible to post some landscape shots you guys took? I'm wondering how's the place like.

TIA

You can visit my gallery to see some shoots I took in during guided tour in 2002 and during my free n easy trip in Oct this year. Looking at your itinery, very likely you might not have much time to shoot much so would advise not to lug all your gear out.

I was basically shooting everything with my 300D attached with 17-40.

Thanks for the links... they are

I've made up my mind to take a small/light (carbon fiber?) tripod that is hopefully cheap, cuz I got no idea what to get and what are the price range.

Any recommendations?

TIA.

My honest opinion.

Four words: Solo Free & Easy

U wun regret it with F&E. Believe me.

If u insist on those tour group thing (somehow its strange, ppl go overseas is always shopping-shopping-shopping), den bring 1 walkabout lens will do. Or bring a P&S. And of cos, DO NOT jump in to take group photo for the entire group. If u really must, start charging for ur services. Some ppl really noe how to take advantage of others. They will prolly say until u very paiseh and den u'll print for them FOC and u get nothing in return for ur effort.

If u heng, they say nothing. If u sway, they will pass all kindsa snide remarks on ur photos.

Such are the pitfalls of joining a tour group.

Unfortunately this time round, I'm not the one making decision.... so :embrass: :dunno:

Also, thanks for the info on the taking group photos... I'll concentrate on landscapes and Korean gals instead  :sweatsm: :bsmilie:

i just been to korea too.

daytime photography is quite difficult due to the extreme contrast between parts under shade and those which are not.

jsbn... u went for a free and easy before? omg! how do u communicate with them? i even had trouble buying ice-cream in COEX. haha.

gotta take some instant food from singapore as... erm... the food doesnt really appeal to singaporeans. i had almost-all veggie steamboat for lunch and dinner for about 3 days. :S

Actually not Korea, I went Japan F&E since I'm more comfortable with Nihongo den with Hanguk. :D

How to communicate ah? Hmm.... Actually those few dayz flashed past me like a blur, fortunately, I understood the kanji and knew how to speak a little. Buying ice-cream and crepes ain't much of a problem. The biggest problem came in the countryside.
