For long arms and legs, you could always use PS to clone, duplicate and triplicate and extend them to however long you like them to be :)

easier to find a different girl than to do what you are suggesting.

we dun do that unless the girl is a celebrity and we need her face.

if u bother to do a search, there are plenty. Celest Chong was one of them. It's is a bit racist to just think that Eurasians and Caucasians are better than Asians in modelling. Moreover, not all Eurasians and Caucasians make good models. Most are not blessed with looks.

try harder, fresh faces every month.... celeste is very yesterday already.

I think if people actually ask for more local faces that'll help
and doesn't the photographer have some say in the choice of model?

just read an interview with this photographer in Picture magazine, Tim Richardson or Michael Thompson? anyway he said that sometimes he extends the model a few inches with photoshop.grin.that sounds fun

 Maybe Singapore should be proud of our local "talents".

Personally, in the terms of training and professionalism, I would think that local models are a bit lacking. But maybe it isn't their fault. Maybe it's simply because that there isn't enough good modelling agencies with the experience and money to offer a complete training. And of course I guess it will be easier to hire foreigner talents than to actually train people from scratch. And I don't think being a model is such a desirable job amongst Singaporeans yet.

I don't agree that Caucasians and Eurasians always make good models. Take a look at the Japanese market. They worship almost anything that's Western, but when you look at their magazines, catalogues, you will hardly find any foreign models at all. In Korea, the local modelling industry is a multi-billion business, but it's largely boosted by their large creative and moderately active fashion industries. Look at Taiwan, these days they have plenty of really good models that have been dominating their fashion and creative scene. Lin Zhiling, Patina Lin, Janel Cai etc. Just to name a few.

There are many reasons, it could simply be that our local industries aren't developed enough to support an active modelling industry.

the models I shoot in the US on test shoots don't get ANY training at all. modelling agencies don't train models how to model, they sign them on based on their looks
it's through test shooting they get some training

So erm, your point being?
That these models are equally as professional or skilled? Well, if the models can pick up the skills of being good models through test shoots, then they are good modelling material, I guess.

my point being you're mistaken if you think that models have to go through some sort of modelling training school
as far as I'm aware most of these modelling training schools are bull, a way to make money off wide-eyed girls

Hmm... well, then I must have a really wrong idea then. I know there are many schools that hold so-called modelling courses simply to cream off young girls. But I'm sure there are genuine schools or agencies that are serious about looking for talent. That's what I really meant to say.

Just found it amusing that out of the nearly 15-20 fashion magazines in singapore, most of the editorial spreads are dominated by eurasian/eastern european faces
Anyone got some idea why?
1st factor is the asian girl earn much less than eurasian which their country culture treat it as a pro job...but in Singapore...the Singaporean girl are more practical as they are chasing for 5 "c" or "B".

2nd factor is that Singaporean girl are becoming managerial/excutive level/banker/career woman...etc rather than be a model which earn peanut especially in Singapore.

Just like the fate of the photography in Singapore...still looking for bright future...just wondering how many full time photographer in Singapore can earn their "own" B&W / Merz ?

You are wrong, Local models are usually better than caucasians and eurasians models. BUT its just that the beauty of them has blind people from seeing if they are trained before or not...

But I do agree with u, singapore market is just not opening themselves up to our own people, seen how people give up their dreams not becos they cant do a good job BUT becos they are not regonised for their effort.

 *out of topic*

This matter is kinda subjective as beauty itself is very subjective.

I think Singapore, being so small, have a smaller pool of talents, as a results, less local model. You dun see people complaining that China dun have supermodels? They have it by truckloads. Only thing that's the CHinese model lacks is opportunities.

As for Eurasian models, they are generally blessed with good looks as they have both features, of course, some eurasians inherited the worse of the features then i have nothing to say.

People has this mentality that the rarer it is, the more valuable it is. Just like diamond. The water/diamond paradox came to my mind. If you pay for a magazines say FHM for the pics, will you pay for International celebrities like Carmen Electra or the so called "heartland honeys"? Please.. if only you answer otherwise then you have the right to critise people not using the local models etc.

We can except that our athletes are not good enough, our actors and actresses cannot act, our soccer players absolutely no chance at world cup but cannot accept that our models are not good enough?

I must say, some of the local actresses, models are greatlooking but they just dun have the model figures. Look at Fiona Xie and Ericia Lee for example, they are hot but they are short! International runway models are at least 1.75m..... way beyong average singaporean girls.

kate moss was about 1.7m only! and being a runway model and being a print model can be exclusive. that's why Women model management in the US has a division specially for runway models. Devon Aoki (lachapelle's very unique looking model) is only 5ft 6. her face is probably the most distinctive I've seen around and she's not "beautiful" in the traditional sense

alot of models don't model full time, even in the US
here are examples of the other jobs some of these guys have: graphic designer, musician, and my favourite,US Army Reserve. but I guess in the US the work schedules of alot of jobs are much more flexible too.

I'd pay for heartland hunnies because I think carmen electra is a sl-ut and frankly the asian sex appeal turns me on much more than the western porn star sex appeal

anyway where does our definition of beauty come from anyway? Considering that models are all about beauty, and the definition of beauty seems to change (please tell me I'm not the only one who doesn't see why marilyn monroe is considered a sex bomb)

if the media has been dominated by the West, and the western bone structure is about sharp features and big eyes and blonde hair, and we get most of our media content from the West, then.....well do the math

I don't know if it is a chicken an egg situation, where people in fashion and media industries push a certain look and then that becomes beautiful, or beauty is there first and then the media industry laps it up

I don't know about you but I don't accept that us singaporeans are not "good enough" be it in fields of acting or atheletics or WHATEVER it is. it's as if we have to keep trying to prove ourselves to ourselves, the newspaper laps up anything about someone "making it" in another country in some untraditional field. Everything is about opportunity skill and timing man. of course in whatever fields we want to go in we need to build up the skills (anyone can build up skills with the right exposure), opportunity is more difficult, timing is unpredictable.

personally I think that jacelyn tay would have made an incredible model, and I'd like to state that she is one of the inspirations that led me to starting photography
personally also I like my women slightly fleshy, with slitty eyes
I like thick eyebrows, I like round faces
I think that having a flat face is not a bad thing, it just takes a different approach to bring out the uniqueness in a face (lighting a face to bring out the graphic 2-dimensionality of it, totally different mentality from lighting to bring out the 3-dimensionality of a face)

I have a question, just wanted to check if anyone really gets more excited about buying a samsung phone when you see all those european models in their ads

nope. i personally prefer asian models in the samsung ad. It's sort of a "pinkaton syndrome". Many still think using foreigners yield better results because they are being "worshipped" as a "more advanced" race.

Look at the ad for this hair growth product (I forgot which brand) they put in a englishman wearing some lab coat and said the product is researched in the USA (so?) and is "proven" to work.

I guess some ppl still thinks that if a 'more advanced' race is promoting, it must be good, high standards or high class. :dunno:

Doesn't work on me...

or.. did anyone knows that all the ads on TV shown with european models are actually all done in Singapore, not some imported adv.

And does it make one wonder why in Malaysia, you see the same ad BUT with an asian model? They have a law that says all adv to be shown on TV must be a Malaysian actually, so thats how their people get jobs....

Yes. You are the one and only one who doesn't see why.

Yes I do feel excited. But when I check the price my wallet starts to get unexcited. The wallet always wins regardless of European models or Mongolian models or Alaskan models.

Well caucasians have natural coloured eyes and hair. Shaper facial features like almond eyes, hawk nose, high bridge etc. Its not like Asians do not have, but the frequency is lesser than that of caucasians. Asians usually look "cute", caucasians look "elegant" because of these features. Besides most of the editorial spreads maybe taking pictures from the manufacturer or designer which happens not to be an asian country.
for more than 30 yrs been living with wat
i tot was natural hazel brown eyes and bluish black hair,
now i know better,
they r unreal thnx to u.

from what i hear from my relative all ads in malaysia must be produced in malaysia.
asian models are more professional than the caucasians...look at the race queens, the asian ones almost always oblige and pose fer you. the caucs just carry own yakking away to their colleagues....

if i had a product and i want to sell it.... i want a cauc to hold it.
because caucs are better at looking better. haha

maybe its our small gene pool...the chinese tend to look very ah lian and the very exquisite ones are too good to model....
i would say malay girls can look very very pretty they have beautiful bone structure.

our world is becomming smaller everyday, and for now the caucs are well dictating from how we speak what we wear to what we should pray to.

but with china and india rising up....
maybe the next batman on your screens could be an asian
