What is a reasonable first DSLR to get ? My budget is below 1000, or maybe a lil' above that :/

Nikon doesn't offer the AF motor and bracketing for the entry levels, a bit of a disadvantage there
Why not go and try them out at the shops? Test out the handling for yourself
