Field Test: Olympus EPL-2 by Marky

Had the opportunity to do a field test on the latest of the Olympus Pen Series, the Olympus EPL-2.

The button layout has changed alot and Olympus has added a dial for easier and faster control of the functions. It took me awhile to get used to the button layout using the EPL-2.

Lenses: Comparing the EPL-2 kit lens of 14-42mm Mark II m4/3 with the EPL-1 14-42 Mark I m4/3 . You can see from the top view of the comparison pics, the lens cap can be seen sticking out a little. The zoom and focus of the Mark II lens is much smoother compared to the Mark I.

Autofocus: Apparently for me, the autofocus for the EPL-2 is slightly faster compared with the EPL-1.. but i've yet to have a chance to really test it during low lightings which for the EPL-1 is slow at auto focusing.

The art filters are mostly the same except for the additional Dramatic Tone Art filter which is one that i liked the best.. it gives an HDR kind of look for the photos..

One thing about using the art filters in this camera is that it really slows down the writing process to the memory cards..

Interesting effects and very nice pictures! I love the dramatic effect on the toy robot and the dog. But I'm sure the photographer played a big part.

Thanks.. I really loved the EPL-2 and the autofocus really is a huge improvement over EPL-1.
