DSLR Image On PC Monitor

When I used DP&S, what I seen on my cam LCD screen is what I seen on my PC monitor. However, I was told that for DSLR, the pics may appear normal on the cam screen but not so on PC. The pics are a bit dull and colour not so rich.

Is that why we need photo editing software that I read about in CS forum?

Try overexposing the pics slightly. This will give better colour saturation.
Alternatively you can use PS(photoshop) to increase the colour saturation and contrast.
The problem may also lie with your lens, as some lenses produce punchier colours whereas others produce flatter colours.
