According to the weight comparison chart found somewhere in the middle of this page:
http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/digital_rebel_xti-review/index.shtml

The EOS 400D weighs 510g, while the Pentax K100D weighs 560g.

Reading your aforementioned statement, i would interpret it as "400D feels lighter than K100D because it's like a cheap plastic toy"

Does that mean anything below 560g feels plastic toy to you? if that's the case, the following camera would feel even more plastic to you as they are even lighter than the 400D.

Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D)
Olympus EVOLT E-500
Samsung Digimax GX-1S

How a camera feels can be affected by it's weight, but also by the materials used in it's construction. The D40 is the worst imho. 400D and 350D are next.

well, perhaps they need to add a little bit more rubber for extra gripping..
400D is much better than 350D IMO...
D40/x is quite ok...

all the 3 cameras just need a battery grip.. well, again that's for me, and i'm not sure if D40/x comes with any grip option

*Update*

Option A:
1) 400D w/kit
2) Canon 55-200mm USM Lens
3) Sigma EF500 Flash

Option B:
1) 350D w/kit
2) Canon 55-200mm USM Lens
3) Canon 430EX Flash

Both options comes with freebies: 2GB CF card, case, tripod

My tech guy advised me to take option b as 350 has a bigger body and the $ saved (approx $300) could get a better flash + some filters.

What do u experts think? i am quite blur abt filters... read bit abt it cost ard $10-20 to protect the lens from uv.

appreciate your advise :)

I would pick the 350D.

350D bigger than 400D?

I don't think so... I own a 350D, while my friend has the 400D.

Side by side, it looked similar. However, 400D is nicer to hold due to the added grips provided by the additional rubber pads.

The 400D grip is even smaller than the 350D.
