i totally overlooked this, as it never happen to me before, when i was using it...

this ring is also used in a few other AF-D lenses, one of the more common one being the AF 85/1.4D.

It can be patched. If you look inside that thread, one of the first few posts is also a link to dpreview.... inside is a DIY fix, which involves cutting a thin aluminium sheet, drilling a hole, and using epoxy to glue it over the break point.

Looks like if I am to get a 85/1.4, I would be going for the Sigma as well. But so far I think the 80-200 is good enough for portraits.

well imho, only get the 85 1.4 if u intend to make use of the 1.4, other than that, the 80-200 is good enough...
