hi.. im gonna shoot some fireworks with my d40X... tips PLEASE
..
Get a remote, use bulb mode.
Set your ISO down to min, or raise it abit, from your position determine how long you want to open the shutter without over-exposing the sky/background
if its too smoky, you should restrict yourself to probably 2-3 seconds or less exposure, cuz too much smoke, and too long an exposure, you will have a huge.. smoky mess..
if your angle is good, less smoke viewed, good clean sky, its ok to expose for long to capture many blooms, best done from a-far, drop your aperture to f11, f13 etc, its safe to expose for abt 10-11 seconds on this aperture at iso 200 if the background is not too bright.
on bulb mode, the moment you see the flare from the firing, open it, you will catch the trail going up, close the shutter when you see the fireworks bloom and fade. dont catch too many blooms in one shot if there's too much over-lap, but if its spaced out, many blooms will be v nice.
can use a black card at times too. to get nice thin streaks of blooms, aperture shouldnt be too wide, abt f8++
