Hi I have a D3100 & Raynox DCR-250. Can I buy a Nikon 50mm F1.8 and use with this combination? I know I need to manual focus with this len, and set the aperature via the len but how should I set the shutter speed? New to DSLR, so please pardon my Newbies question;p

It's easier to shoot macro using Aperture Priority i.e. you choose the aperture and the camera chooses the speed.

You'll be using very small aperture opening like F11 to F22 to get good depth of focus.

The Raynox 250 works better with a 100 to 135mm lens, you get better magnification.

This is the maximum magnification you'll get with a 50mm+Raynox 250.

Note: The working distance is approximately 75mm to 80mm.

50mm prime lens with Raynox 250.

Points to note:

1. You'll have to work very close to your subject; may be difficult if the subject is skittish

2. You'll have to either push up your ISO, use a tripod or flash because of the very small aperture opening i.e. F11 to F22

3. You cannot use the built-in flash because it'll cast a shadow over the subject

4. Hot shoe flash must be diffused
