canon lens question

PLease bear with me if my question sounds really silly.

I've got a 28-135 canon lens.

I notice that there's a ring where you can adjust from macro to infinitiy. There's also the other ring where you zoom from 28mm to 135mm.

I usually use the AF mode.

I'm just wondering.. what's the ring which adjusts from macro to infinity do? Does it mean that I can take macro shots?

Please enlighten me..thanks in advance.

Thats the focusing ring. If you are using AF, can actually ignore that ring. We use that ring for manual focusing. I do not have this lens but I think its not a real macro lens. You may need to add closeup filters or tube to get better magnification.
 

the "macro" would be the minimum focussing distance from your subject to your sensor.

That is actually from the front element to the subject.
