Can the new 50mm f/1.8G lens used on DX camera?

Hil,

I'm new to DSLR and own a D5000 for about 6 mths.

1) I went to Nikon web site and found that there's only one prime lens available for DX camera, i.e. 35mm f/1.8. Is it true?

2) Nikon has just released one new 50mm f/1.8G lens. Can it be used on DX cameras?

The following Nikon's own prime lenses are compatible with D5000 DSLR:

--- AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.4G ED
--- AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G
--- AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G
--- AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G
--- AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED
--- AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G
--- AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4G
--- AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/3.5G ED VR
--- AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED

and all other Nikon's AF-S lenses for auto-focus operation.

Lens marked with "DX" notation, is optimized for Nikon's cropped sensors camera.

Lens marked without "DX" notation, is optimized for Nikon's full frame sensor (or FX) camera and cropped sensor (or DX) camera.

DX lenses are specially design to be use of DX bodies, which the cameras have a smaller sensor.

Non DX lenses able to use on DX bodies, since the lenses are design to cover larger image circle, not an issue on camera has a smaller sensor.

cameras like D5100, D5000, D3000, D3100, D60, D50, D40 and D40X do not have focusing motor in their bodies, so need to use AF-S lenses to enable auto focusing.

Hope this explanation is clear enough.

Off course it can. I just bought this Len in the afternoon. How much u bought? I think mine is AF 50mm f/1.8D.

urs is definitely the AF 50 f/1.8D. AF-S 50 f/1.8G has yet to reach the shores of SG yet. bodies without in-built AF motors cannot perform AF on AF-D lenses. and TS's camera is d5000, which lacks an in-built AF motor

I have yet to decide to go for the 35mm Dx or the 50mm. If I'm not wrong, 50mm f/1.8D is not as good as the new f/1.8G.
