Greetings,
in the last 6 months I have acquired an obscene amount of equipment (by my standards!), and since I'm a real newbie to this hobby, I am wondering if my lenses and camera bodies need regular maintenance. Anybody can clue me in? Should I be sending my gear for maintenance every year or so, or should I wait for a malfunction?

TIA,

As far as I know.....

Lenses most people do CLA but most purists frown on doing that as it may impact performance.....

Bodies CLA is alot more common but it all depends on how heavy a user you are.......

For me, I rather not CLA my lenses but bodies (if I do it once every 3 years), it should be good enough.

whats CLA? calibrate?

- Most modern gear do not need regular maintenance.

- Keep your lenses in dry cab.

- Take lenses out into the sun to shoot once in a while. UV kills fungus.

- If you have backup SLRs, trigger shutter once in a few months.

- Don't leave fingerprints on your lenses for prolonged periods. They eat the coating. Don't clean your lenses excessively.

- You might want to send in your lenses/bodies for servicing and checking one month prior to warranty expiry, just in case.

just use it regularly and no need to be too obsessed with cleaning it too much

or better still..pass it to me i use for u :D
