For comparison you should have posted photos from both of your eyes. Without examination of your other eye, its quite hard to diagnose anything.
It could be a benign condition you've just never noticed.
I would advise you to visit the nearest GP if your eyesight worsens or if you start noticing halos in your vision. Also note for any other visual oddities. Lastly check if your eyeball has become very hard or unusually soft. (easily checked by pressing a finger over the affected eye.)

The white ring may be due to ageing, high cholesterol or something that you are just prone to developing. You did not mention how old you are. Perhaps you may want to consider a cholesterol check.

BTW, there is an instrument that can give the doctor such a big view of the eye (sometimes even bigger) with fancy lighting.
