planning to get a Canon DSLR 450D coming monday...

any essential items apart from the camera + kit lens itself?

budget constraint also.. :p

dont forget the camera bag and the cleaning stuff :bsmilie:

extra battery, extra memory card, and maybe a filter for the lens.

Make a dry box to control storage humidty an essential purchase item too.

As usual, I would say a proper storage first- dry cabinet.

Anything else depends on what you intend to shoot.

i like those portrait shots by u people here in the forum, hehe...

what kind of lens should i go for in future as i a true newbie.. :p

Canon I don't know.
Maybe,
Canon 10-22F/2.8
Canon 24-70 F/2.8
Canon 70-200 F/2.8 IS
Canon 600
Canon 100-400

Canon 10-22F/2.8 - Wide Angle photos, good for landscape
Canon 24-70 F/2.8 - Walkabout multipurpose lens
Primes - 50mm, 85mm etc - good for portraits

The rest are Zoom lens below, good for taking close shot of wildlife from a safe distance (without alarming them that is)
Canon 70-200 F/2.8 IS
Canon 600
Canon 100-400

TS must know what you want to shoot.
Lens above are edited with some purposes to guide you. But some are deadly expensive so be mentally prepared.

TS mentioned "budget constraints"..so how come those 24-70 f/2.8 or 70-200 f/2.8 lens considered for recommendation?
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 will be not bad IMHO. it can do decent lowlight work and nice portrait shots without having to squeeze out your bank account.
don't forget u guys also reminded him about memory card, tripod, bag, cleaning stuffs, extra batteries, dry cabinet...wow...
what about flash gun and battery grip:p
