hmmm, never seen my name mentioned so many times in apost and in a thread.

If I get paid each time, 5Dmk2 here I come.

btw, I am not 9involved in this tit-a-tat, don't drag me in, I might just get itchy and start real slamming :)

Deadpoet, ya, mentioned you and I get bashed again. The OT will continue, no?

alrite guys stop reporting this thread, the 'relevant mod' is onto it.

and it's not me. i'm... too lenient. :)

The lighting is harsh. Subject matter focus is off (u intend to portray something but something else catches attention). The symbolism u intend to bring across only exists with the author, no one else quite gets it. Content is not bold enough to bring across the theme. The model's attire isn't exactly businessy, there are 5 levels of formal dress, this would at best be a 4.

Conclusion: F (Author is not familiar with the theme and has not done enough preperation for the content)

This is the best comment i ever read in this thread.

And TS, like what many other said, i think you should lock ur camera in the dry cabinet for a few days. Head down to the library. Rake out books and magazines not only on photography but also on business. Look at how the cover pics are taken, the concept behind it. And how are they brought forth.

I read this somewhere in CS which i find it extremely helpful. "after shooting ur frames, keep them aside for a few days. After which you review them. And post those that you truly think is nice." Give some thought to the above statement, i think you might understand what i'm trying to say.

Then again, posting ur best pics, might not be something which appeals to the masses. And ignoring or rebutting on negative critique is not the way to improve. I would not say, i'm a pro in my area. But I do have my days of being slam worthlessly too. And i picked up from there. Maybe you should too.

when i was new someone told me

"i expect more from you, as you alwyas dish out critique like a pro"

it smarted, it hurt, it festered, but it was a good wakeup call.

there is something learnt from giving critique as well, it is not just receiving. in some schools of thought the teachers will ask the students "what is wrong", and when you can tell what is wrong with something, you will be likely to notice it for yourself. i see nothing wrong with that actually. after all one's critique is subject to critique. if he talks nonsense, then people should correct him so he can learn.

and the pictures are bad, but i don't see the need for being so personal just because someone's been going around criticising others' works while not postin up their own. for example.. certain people (especially those posting here) do that all the time! :)

ts- my advice is to ignore the comments you feel are malicious and personal, if you do have a case and have looked at it objectively. for example, i thought indaybadiday's statements were fair and warranted.. as for people posting about anything else other than the pictures, spare yourself and ignore their nonsense. some people have too much time on their hands and just want to waste it watching the world burn while putting themselves on a pedestal.

also, a little humility goes a long way, your reaction will only generate more resentment amongst the community. also, take comments less personally.. some of the people posting here will know all about that and banishment.. :bsmilie:

No comment on technical or artistic execution of the shot, but this TS has been doing it tirelessly to arrange model, pose them, get them outfit ,props, setting strobe light and umbrellas, preparing background etc, all these is just to get that " theme " shot. However, while getting all these technical materialistic things sorted out...he left out some other important elements which is required in a good picture.
I think, take it easy and go with a slower pace, like do test with a live view on monitor would improve, perhaps. When time is on your side, can do want, no problem.

Just my little two cents' worth lah.

I think when we post our works in a forum, we have to accept any kind of response. You are of course also welcome to reply to those responses. You really have to have that level of maturity to accept it - it's nothing personal. Don't pass off comments that you don't want to hear as rubbish, but if your intention is really to improve yourself, probe them further. Gems of feedback do occasionally take some work to be dug out :) Some of the folks who have taken the trouble to reply to you are really good.

I think people are just surprised that you would critique their pictures pinpointing certain details, so their expectations have been brought to a certain level, which are not in line with your results. If anything, I admire your tenacity in posting these works. :)

If you're tired of getting responses that you don't welcome, but still keen to learn, then perhaps the forum is not the way for you. Another method to learn would be to take a trip to the library or Riceball@Funan and find a book specialising in studio lighting and stuff.

to TS, welcome to ClubSnap!!!

when u posted ur fotos online in Portraits and Poses, u mux be prepared for harsh criticism of all kinds. u do have a choice, though.

dun post.

calling others 'immature', 'slow', 'children' etc. when they posted rather honest but harsh criticism is really too much.

perhaps u should change ur mindset and welcome all kinds of criticism if u really want to improve.

i'm certain u'll enjoy ur stay here if u're more receptive to criticism from some of the more senior and experienced fotographers such as Deadpoet and indaybadiday.
