Hi There.....

I have personally had owed and experience with the these lens:
-70-210 f4.5-5.6 (used to)
- 100-300 f4.5-5.6 (used to)
- 100-300 f4.5-5.6 APO (used to)
-70-210 f4 (used to) - best glass among al with best sharpness but if you dont mind AF speed - a little slower
- Sigma 70-300 APO Macro version I (used to)
- Sigma 70-300 APO Macro version II (used to)
-75-300 f4.5-5.6 - currently using as a travel setup.

All the above lens are great and cheap to own....(2nd hand...). Optics wise...
the APO ones are obviously better for longer ends with less chromatic aberrations usually obvious on white back lighted/reflected light.

Mostly for lens of thes range...shoting at f8~11 yields sharp images with proper handling and care - e.g use tripod or other menas of support. Specifically the Sigma ones are better used without filters for sunrise/sunset ball types off shots....
