Questions

Will we be reimbursed transport costs if needed since the event ends at midnight?
Yes, we can make that arrangement for the midnight-shift photogs.

Yes, volunteer Passes and possibly a limited edition Crew Tshirt (to be confirmed)

Is it a need to cosplay?
Not necessary.

What do we need to cover for the event? What will be the programme?
We will provide detailed programme closer to date, but main scope:
Main Walk/Opening Ceremony where Storm Troopers willl escort the G-O-H out of the lift
Food Kiosk and Ticketing Booths manned by special students on shift
Multiple Movie Screening Venues
Flash Spots/Performances by Celebrity Impersonators (on cued time, no worries)
Roaming Impersonators and novelties Novelty Books, e.g. Make-over Studio

Can kids of photologs come along?

Name : A Very Special Walk 2010 – Hollywood Experience (there is no actual walk, but an evening of movies, F&B and games)

Date: 17 July 2010 (Saturday)

Venue: Pathlight School

Website: www.autism.org.sg/avsw10

There will be a volunteers briefing on 10 July Sat, 10am at Pathlight School for those who are interested for a detailed run-through and have a look at the site.

General Event coverage 3pm - 12midnight, includes:

- 4pm Opening ceremony: Minister Gan Kim Yong will be present. We are staging the whole thing like a red-carpet walk, so would be great to have all photographers “acting” as paparazzi as well.

The opening will be started with a tap-dance routine

Minister will be escorted by 2 starwars troopers.

Spongebob will be driven in on an open-top car

Other “celebrities” will be driven in by luxury cars from Exorticar Club

Followed by an “award ceremony”

Other events of interest:

o Photo-op between 3:30pm – 5:30pm – 12 luxury cars at the carpark for pax to take photos with.

o Star wars Characters photo-ops at library (after opening)

o Spongebob photo-op at library (after opening)

o Other “celebrities” photo-op at stage (after opening)

o 2 lucky draws segments

o 8 screenings at 3 different sites, one of which is outdoor screening

o Other games & activities

o Plenty of F&B

Main aim among all is to showcase the abilities of our students with autism. They will be helping out in various areas of the events, esp in F&B.

Conditions and restrictions are pretty standard and reasonable:
* NO posting online of any photos you take at the event, especially of the kids there. I'm sure you understand why. (Note the school will approve and release some post=event photos for publicity, but we can't put up anything unless we get approval.)
* Need to have your NRIC, full name, contacts etc. for record purposes and acknowledgements/credits - will be further confirmed once date is nearer.

You can check out this - le petit prince organised this volunteer photographer event and you know what the photographs would be used for, of course the photographers would be credited too!

I don't mind doing, but it is so far away in July. Also the hours are long. Is it ok to do a couple of hours? Also, what are your expectations? Being volunteer and unpaid is not an issue at all; doing something to return to society is a gift. I am inquiring what's the flexibility. Again, July 17 seems so far away for now. But count me in. No cosplay though, too old for that, haha. I suggest you have a few of us; as I am sure many Pentaxians will be more than happy to contribute.

imagine a whole bunch of volunteer pentaxians...

And why not? Perhaps we can do some volunteer work as well. This will be a good effort, and can get Emjay to sponsor something as well. Good marketing message for Pentax too! Of course must seek permission from the school...

hi hina,

i would like to know how the photographs will be used, if they are.

i'm sorry for the query but it never hurts to be sure and confirm what is going on.

anyhow, i should be around - but i can only confirm nearer the date. will pm you sometime end jun.

hi!

Will probably need a team of around 5-10 photographers to cover the event, if some of you find the hours long, I can arrange in shifts for the team. We will be flexible.
the reason i need so many photographers are because the school grounds are big, and we will be needed to cover every aspect of the event including the cosplayers.
I, myself will be volunteering as a photographer too.

Hope it answers your queries!

Hi Hina,
I'm interested in volunteering for this event but to be frank I'm still in the process of learning to take good picture.. Hope that you don't mind the outcome of my products. But seriously I'm interested in partcIpating this event.. Do email me back at mattconnection@hotmail.com :)

Fliprock - given the big event, I suggest that via this thread to do a planning ahead. Eventually, you need to lock down the volunteers and backup in the event some couldn't make it due to last minute urgent appointment. I assume you will liaise with the school authority to ensure the photographers will be accredited with badges for security purpose, as well as etiquettes briefing on what to wear and how to behave. I assume too that parents will be around, and we must understand the sensitivity of them about these challenged students.

I am not sure whether children of photographers (if they desire) can volunteer to help out as well. This will be another opportunity to give back to society as well as for the young ones to understand diversity.

I assume you will eventually call meetings to ensure everyone who volunteers are clear on expectations.

I am sure more Pentaxians will come forward for this good cause.

For charity I don't mind helping but need to confirm later as program is tight on weekends. I prefer to do the daytime slot as I am hopeless with evening/night shots. Also my shots will not be like fengwei or creampuff...because while the equipment is good, the photographer is not.

if they don't mind the standard of the volunteer, i may sign up.

but the event date is still very far away. unforeseen circumstances may still happen.

Same here. I do not mind volunteering but too early in the year to commit. I do work for the MOE so will have an official pass when visiting other schools, but I will confirm my presence as the time draws near as I do have commitments in my school too.

thanks for the valuable advice! I'll take note of it! Yup, I will just collect the names in the hat first, and once it is nearer the date, I'll reconfirm again. Yes I'll just work w the school authority about the stuff you mentioned, I'm not sure abt the kids of the volunteer photographers but if the kids are willing cosplay and the school allows, it's good, I'll just check w them first.

Thank you, you big hearted guys! :) I know the event may be a bit far, I'm just collecting names in the hat first, and once it gets closer, I'll re-confrim again.

It's not about the standard of the photographer, but about capturing beautiful memories and the school will treasure the photos a lot. I, myself am not as good as creampuff or fengwei! :) but all it matters is to have a big heart and at the same time practise your shooting :) yea?

For your information, I'm hearing impaired and I'm a female. So the updates will be either through here or by email for the confirmed volunteers on the list.

I will check with the school coordinator about the concerns you had, this is kinda my first time trying to organise this so do try to bear with me yea? :)

Thanks!

Hey fliplock
I presume its ok to ask non-Pentax users too? If ok I will ask around my friends. Most of with the dark side of the evil empire. ;)

I don't mind volunteering too...and as someone suggested, you should start planning soon...haha, I think non-Pentaxians are welcomed too?;p
