Is there any where that i can find info on the 7D exposure Dynamic range? Would like to know how many stops between shadow and highlight. Is the CCD like a film where there is a shadow and highlight latitude? Thanks:rolleyes:

In his book "Dynax/Maxxum/Alpha 5D/7D Digital Cameras", Gary L. Friedman lists the light-capturing ability of several different sensors.
  • photographic paper - 6.5 stops
  • digital sensors - 8 stops
  • colour negative film - 12 stops
  • human eye - about 30 stops
So 8 stops to answer your question (according to Gary).

apchoo,
8 stops.. hmm, i guess he meant in RAW.

Timber Wolf,
Wah too chim.., makes me want to conduct my own test once my cam is back from hospital.

Thanks for the reply apchoo and Timber Wolf.

If you are lazy person like me who don't shoot raw, I think 6 to 7 stops is safe if you taking jpeg.

My take is just bracket the shot... after the bracket function is two clicks away on the right hand control dial...
